Irish tech salaries are outstripping their European counterparts, a report by Hays has found

Irish technology roles now command salaries that are competitive and often exceed those in other key global economies and technology markets.

Recruitment and HR platform Hays, in partnership with Horsefly, has released data showing Ireland is a top destination for tech professionals. Hays collected data from 34 countries and nearly 10,000 technology professionals worldwide, to investigate the costs, availability, plans, aspirations and key skills of IT and technology professionals.

The data shows that Irish technology roles now command salaries that can compete with and in some cases exceed those in other key global economies and technology markets, strengthening the country’s position as a key destination for skilled professionals.

The Hays Tech Talent Explorer found that a major global conversation period is focused on AI and the impact of removal from workthe main thing is how artificial intelligence is reshaping technology roles. Especially as routine and administrative tasks become more automated and professionals can focus on more complex, high-impact work.

Hays suggested that, in Ireland this change has a significant impact on continued wage growth as there is a growing demand for professionals with a variety of skills, in areas such as technology, critical thinking, creativity and decision-making skills.

Global competition

The study showed that Ireland maintains a significant pay advantage in a few key roles, namely data engineers and solution designers. Compared to markets such as the UK and Germany, Ireland is the most efficient, with overall technical salaries in those countries trailing at 17pc and 19pc respectively.

The US on the other hand is currently the global leader in compensation Hays found, with the average technical salary reaching around €108,387 compared to €81,338 in Ireland. Hays said, “The data reveals a strong gap in specialist fields such as data scientists. The findings suggest that Ireland offers employers access to highly skilled technical talent on a sustainable cost basis.”

Salary benchmarks in Ireland were found to remain close to major global markets such as Australia and Singapore, while contractor day rates were up against major hubs including Luxembourg and Hong Kong. According to Hays this shows the strategic importance of the country as a center of technological activity in the world. “Despite wider economic uncertainty, Irish tech salaries continue to be driven by continued demand for advanced, future-ready skill sets rather than AI-led disruption.”

Commenting on the research, Hays Ireland’s chief executive, Barney Ely, said, “Ireland is no longer just the European branch office of major technology companies, it is now a key engine of global technology innovation.

“We just saw layoffs from major players across the tech industry, but the continued strength of wages reflects the strength of the Irish market. For talent, Ireland offers an environment where technical skills are met with high value rewards. For employers, the challenge is no longer just finding people, it’s working with experts who can navigate the AI-enhanced environment.”
