Tarnished Edition Has a Switch 2 Release Date

After waiting for another year to pass, Bandai Namco has finally announced the release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms, and to no one’s surprise, it’s packed into an already packed summer.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was the first game that Nintendo showed during the first Switch 2 Direct, which many fans believed would arrive shortly after the console’s launch, especially since Elden Ring had been out for a few years at this point. Turns out, FroomSoftware will wait a year after the launch of the Switch 2 to get their aging open world title on the system.

Bandai Namco has announced that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026. Those who already own the game on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox systems will be able to purchase the new content separately, meaning they won’t miss out on being early adopters.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition contains the base game, the Shadow of Erdtree DLC, and new content, including new starting classes, and customizable skins for Torrent. For longtime fans, the ability to change the look of Torrent is the most exciting part of the new system, considering it’s something many people thought should be in the base game.

Of the two new starting classes, only one has been revealed: the Heavy Knight. As the name suggests, it’s all about using big weapons and thick armor, allowing them to absorb blows and deal tons of damage back to the enemy. That being said, classes aren’t very important in Elden Ring, as most of them are about starting stat allocation, and it’s easy to switch mid-game.

Fans are excited to learn that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, although that comes with some trepidation. The last in-person demo of the game had serious performance issues, especially around the world, and fans were concerned that FructorySoftware was struggling to get the game to run on Nintendo’s new hardware, especially considering the company’s under-star history with ports.

It was also noted that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is another late Summer/Autumn game, with the August/September/October period being very busy and full of competition. This is because Grand Theft Auto 6 was launched in November, and no company wants to risk their games against it. Hopefully, this does not mean that FroomSoftware is running Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition to avoid it.

FromSoftware also has another big Nintendo Switch 2 game coming out: Duskbloods, which hasn’t had any major updates since it was shown during the system’s first trailer. If the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition receives updates through a random press release, rather than a Nintendo Direct, then there’s a good chance that Duskbloods will appear during Nintendo’s next big show.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is aimed squarely at Nintendo’s new audience who missed it the first time around, as new DLC may not be enough to promote another game, especially after it’s been out for so long. If FromSoftware has solved the problems seen in the last demo of the game, it could be a big hit for the program, especially in a year when it needs a new title, or in the case of Elden Ring, an old one for a new audience.
