Stupid Never Dies Preview

Stupid Never Dies had one of the best trailers at the Game Awards 2025, a quirky musical number featuring undead teenagers beating up monsters in a variety of cool ways.
The problem was that the trailer for Stupid Never Dies was a teaser that focused on the punk art style, rather than revealing any details about the world or the game. Stupid Never Dies launches in 2026, so fans will need more information, and pronto.

A small joint action is good if you don’t have time for something too big.
A new trailer for Stupid Never Dies was shown at the Future Game Show: Spring Showcase 2026. However, DualShockers was given an early glimpse of the game during a special preview event, where we learned more about its strange world, and even unfamiliar characters.
Stupid Never Dies is about a Love Story Among the Dead
Stupid Never Dies is an action RPG starring Davy, a young zombie trapped in a world full of monsters, as most of humanity is gone. One day, Davy discovers the frozen body of Julia, a human girl who died years ago. Davy is soon smitten with Julia and searches for a way to revive her.
Davy meets Dr. Frank, a mad scientist who wants to restore humanity. It turns out that Davy could be humanity’s salvation, as he can devour other monsters and gain their powers, known as Styles. If he can defeat the leader of the monsters, it will be possible to bring Julia back to life.

With that set frame, Davy must attack a dungeon full of monsters, enemies that grow stronger on each floor. However, there is a time limit on how long he can stay in the dungeon, so he will have to rip and tear through the monsters as quickly as possible.
Eleven Fighting Styles in Stupid Never Dies
While Davy starts out as a zombie, he won’t have to stay in that form for long. Stupid Never Dies’ main combat gimmick involves devouring Monster Cores, which allows him to change mid-battle. The eleven styles in Stupid Never Dies are:
|
Name |
The result |
|---|---|
|
Zombie |
A weak style and the one Davy started with. |
|
A werewolf |
The Werewolf’s style is fast and aggressive, with the ability to leap from great heights. |
|
Harpy |
The Harpy Style gives Davy wings, allowing him to fly above enemies and knock them away with the sharp wings. |
|
Golem |
The Golem style makes Davy more resistant to damage and gives him the ability to punch through walls, at the cost of slower attack and movement speed. |
|
The Vampire |
Not only does the Vampire style allow Davy to attack enemies from afar with dozens of mind-controlled bats, but he can heal himself by drinking enemy blood. |
|
Will-o’-the-Wisp |
The Will-o’-the-Wisp style turns Davy into a floating ghost, meaning he avoids most physical hits and cannot be harmed by traps on the ground. |
|
The Cyclops |
Cyclops’ style is dangerous, as it moves slowly, but deals a lot of damage, growing stronger with each hit it takes. |
|
The Snow Fairy |
The Ice Fairy Style has the ability to control ice magic, allowing Davy to freeze enemies in place and absorb their essence to use as a power source for a frozen magic blade. |
|
Merfolk |
The Merfolk style controls water, using it as both a weapon and a shield. They can also swim through the ground itself, being able to sneak up behind enemies. |
|
The Lich |
The Lich style turns any enemy it kills into a skeleton that fights alongside Davy. It is also immune to most of the negative effects of the situation, due to its more lethal nature than usual. |
|
A demon |
The Demon Style is able to control gravity, allowing it to throw enemies around with ease, and allowing Davy to reach even higher heights than normal. |
To use these Styles (save iZombie), Davy needs to devour monster cores, which he does in battle. These also change his appearance, as seen in the screenshots above. Styles are not always the same, as the player is given access to a variety of styles, each with their own attacks and passives.

A player can hold several Styles at any given time, meaning no two runs of Stupid Never Dies are the same. Sometimes, you have to make do with what’s available, encouraging players to explore the options available to them.
Davy Can Release Body Mods To Destroy Enemies
Players will not only be able to use Styles in combat, as there are also unlockable items, known as Body Hacks, for Davy to use. Only two have been revealed so far: the Massive Edge, which is a sword that carves enemies, and the Missile Pod, which fires multiple rockets at the enemy.

There is also a super attack, called the Davy Burst, which not only destroys enemies but also changes the world around him, giving the world a graffiti/hallucination look meant to evoke Davy’s delusions to come true.
Stupid Never Dies currently does not have a firm release date; even the latest trailer confirms a 2026 release but gives no further details. The images we’ve seen show that the game is still far in development and in good shape, so it’s likely to come out this year (though not in November).
The gameplay loop in Stupid Never Dies looks set to stand out, especially since there are so many changes. The style and sound are also stellar, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes. The whole experience has a No More Heroes-meets-Lollipop Chainsaw vibe, and I’m here for it.
