Crimson Desert Boss Explains Why The Game Can’t Be Multiplayer Right Now

Good reviews continue to pour in for Crimson Desert, the new open-world single-player game developed by Pearl Abyss, but the Greymane gaming community is hoping for a multiplayer mode.

Crimson Desert is a huge achievement and almost flawless in open world design.

At a recent shareholder meeting, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-Young talked about the possibility of Crimson Desert co-op, saying that the development team had already tried to implement it, but they found a problem related to hardware limitations.

The rating of Crimson Desert continues to rise due to its satisfying combat, and endless exploration in an amazing open world, but the beauty comes at a cost.

A game of this scale, with many complex features and amazing environments filled with insects, animals, and enemies, requires reliable hardware if you want it to run smoothly.

These hardware requirements have become a major speed bump in Pearl Abyss’ attempt to introduce multiplayer, as CEO Heo Jin-Young recently stated, “The development team has tried to implement multiplayer internally,” he said. “But given the current hardware limitations, there are clear sacrifices required.”

Hardware requirements have become a major bottleneck in Pearl Abyss’ quest to introduce multiplayer.

It remains unclear when the Crimson Desert co-op will take place, but Heo Jin-Young revealed that Pearl Abyss is also working on a Switch 2 Port that shares the same hardware-related problem, “Compared to other consoles, the Switch still has low specifications, so there are things we have to give up. Internally, we have started R&D and interest.”

Crimson Desert currently has excellent reviews on Steam, and has a high critic rating of 79 on OpenCritic, but some gamers have found issues with the story, and Heo Jin-Young says, “We also wish we could have done it better. The team tried to fill in the missing parts during the remaining time, but in the end we focused on strengthening the gameplay.”

While Pearl Abyss has some troubleshooting to do in order to bring Crimson Desert to Switch 2, and allow players to explore Pywel with friends, it’s also possible that we could see DLC content or more on the way that could help strengthen the story.
