Ubisoft’s AI Hiring Wave Casts Doubt on Assassin’s Creed’s Future

Ubisoft has had a tumultuous 2026 so far, as not only have seven games been delayed, but six games have been canceled, including one that almost ended. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time reorganize.

2026 also saw Ubisoft facing many internal strikes due to studio closures, reorganizations, and layoffs, with the publisher reorganizing itself into five art houses in an effort to turn its most established franchises into multibillion-year products and maintain live and competitive experiences, among other goals.

According to Ubisoft’s two job listings, the publisher seems to need more new developers to have skills and experience in artificial intelligence, suggesting that the new entries Assassin’s Creed, Far Cryand other franchises may be created in part by AI systems that are always against each other.

Gaming and PC news publication Tech4Gamers originally identified a list of two recent jobs at Ubisoft that require knowledge of using AI programs such as Copilot, Claude, and Gemini.

The first job listing is for the position of Technical Art Director at Ubisoft Annecy for a AAA multiplayer game using Unreal Engine 5, with qualifications that require the applicant to have “strong scripting skills (Maxscript, Python, etc.) and be comfortable working with productive AI models (such as Claude, Copilot, etc. Chat)GPT.”

Another title for this job listing requires the applicant to be proficient in AI productivity tools such as ComfyUI, MidJourney, NanoBanana, or Hunyuan, in addition to being proficient in at least one type of 3D modeling software.

The second job listing for the Paris, France-based Prompt Specialist required the applicant to have, “… a solid understanding of several language models (GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, Qwen, SentenceBERT, Llama, Mistral,…) and their key differences.”

It is also noted in this job listing that applicants with programming skills and knowledge of how to properly use AI application programming interfaces (APIs) will have an advantage in this application.

After further investigation on other Ubisoft job listings worldwide, not all positions have AI programming mentioned in their job applications, many refer to AI refer to AI programming for NPCs, such as Senior Gameplay Animator (AI) – [Far Cry] position in Montreal, Canada.

However, the mere mention of the highly controversial AI production systems in the list of several Ubisoft jobs is a clear sign that the publisher will push the use of AI more in their titles and in terms of seeking those with AI production backgrounds to work on some of their major franchises, such as. Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft has been caught using generative AI in its games, as was shown incongruously in 2025 when fans saw an AI-generated image Anno 117: Pax Romanaand Ubisoft later explained that the image “went in [its] review process” and that they only used AI in game development for prototyping and mockups.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot even suggested at the new Global Sport 2025 conference that production AI could be used in the future.
