Highguard Ain’t Dead Despite Website Shutdown, Says Surviving Dev

Somehow, Highguard returned. At least, that’s the situation according to one developer, following the game’s official website going down without explanation, while active player counts continue to drop.

Highguard was initially doing well for us, it was given the final trailer spot at The Game Awards 2025. Unfortunately, despite being a free-to-play game, it quickly lost players, starting at over 100,000 and dropping below 1000 within a few weeks.

Following an inauspicious start, developer Highguard Wildlight Entertainment has laid off a number of its employees. The end seemed imminent when the game’s official website went down, but apparently, it’s not related to the game’s closure. According to Rebs Gaming on Twitter/X, the developer of Highguard confirmed on Discord that the game is still in progress and more is on the way.

According to the developer, the Highguard website is down due to ongoing work, and getting it back is a very low priority. Instead, the team focuses on updates and new content that is still ongoing.

It seems that announcements of Highguard’s demise were premature, as were comparisons to Concord. Wildlight Entertainment is still working on the game and trying to respond to fan feedback, though it may be too late.

According to the developer, the Highguard website is down due to ongoing work, and getting it back is a very low priority.

Highguard’s lack of stealth has been cited by fans as a reason for its poor launch. If the game had long beta periods, like Arc Raiders did, it would have had time to build hype and fix lingering issues before the full release.

It’s also possible that these updates are just finishing up existing work before the game is thrown into maintenance mode and left to rot. If the website is back up soon, we will know what path is taken.
