In case you didn’t know, Bungie’s long-running shooter Marathon saw its first open network test today. This allowed players to experience the gameplay for themselves and in the process, test the game’s technical aspects as well.
However, Marathon has an uphill climb, late last year, one shooter managed to grab everyone’s attention, and that is none other than Embark Studio’s ARC Raiders.

Bungie knows this tournament so well, that Marathon players can’t even talk about it in the game.
Bungie Doesn’t Want Players Talking About ARC Players In Marathon
On X (formerly Twitter), content creator Rooster captured a video of the name “ARC Raiders” being discussed in an in-game Marathon chat.
As you can see in the video, other games like Fortnite, Escape From Tarkov can be read well, but when ARC Raiders is mentioned, the name is thrown out. While I have no doubt that Bungie is thinking about ARC Raiders, this may be something unrelated to the game being threatened by the Embark game.
Bungie clearly has ARC Raiders on its mind when it comes to Marathon.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a game take a dig at its competition, and I suspect it won’t be the last.
Will it work? Probably not, as people are smart enough to avoid this filter if needed. Of course, given how successful ARC Raiders has been so far for Embark, I don’t blame Bungie at all — especially since it’s the newcomer taking on the top dog in the pound.

When it comes to cheaters, Bungie is taking a strong stance against it, as the developers have announced that those caught cheating will be completely banned without second chances. So don’t expect a warning before getting the ban hammer if you use third-party software or third-party tools to get the wrong edge.
Marathon will be released on March 5 for PS5 and PC.
