Marathon Explains How Seasonal Development Will Avoid Repeat Grinding

Bungie’s new shooter, Marathon, is days away from its full release, and they’ve just revealed new information about the seasons, and the final game’s location, the Cryo Archive.

That other game release seems to have gotten under Bungie’s skin.
Launching on March 5th, Marathon has the potential to be the next big shooter in the market, as their recent server slam event seems to have been a success.
Bungie said the first season will be titled, DEATH IS THE FIRST STEP, marking the start of seasonal content updates including new locations, gear, and runner shells.
Ranked Marathon Mode, Endgame Zone, and Seasonal Content
In Marathon, surviving the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV is no easy task, as runners hungry for loot, and hordes of UESC challenge your every move. But as you level up your team’s development and base stats throughout the season, things start to get a little easier.
Bungie posted on X earlier today, revealing that each season will end with a full reset. “Resetting the season means the game stays dangerous, the loot feels meaningful, and there’s always a good chance to return to the game or bring in a friend without feeling behind the curve.”
This reset will include your gear, contract progress, team progress, and player level, but you will keep all of your cosmetics, titles, and rewards you’ve earned by reaching the top.
The first season revolves around the runners finding a way to board the UESC Marathon, a defunct colony ship floating ominously in the sky above.
Bungie posted on X earlier today, revealing that each season will end with a full reset.
This will be an endgame zone called the Cryo Archive, where runners will crack frozen vaults, solve puzzles, and find new business.
Bungie said the ranked mode will open in the second half of March, where players can climb the ranked ladder and earn special rewards. More information about the Marathon level mode will be released closer to launch.
According to the Marathon team, the world and gameplay will change slightly as each differently themed season introduces new features and stories. “We’ll also be overhauling all of our loot and progression systems, creating room for new metas and playstyles to emerge.”
