PGL Wallachia Season 7 preview: teams, prize pool, format and more

I Dota 2 The situation is tense, as some of the top teams look forward PGL Wallachia Season 7. As the first Dota 2 event organized by PGL this year, the much-anticipated tournament will be the first indication of the state of the place and the strongest teams so far in 2026.

With the qualifiers over, some of the top teams who defined 2025 will gather in Bucharest, Romania to defend their names in PGL history. With past champions, international winners and sub-counties, action-packed games await later in March.

From the top teams to keep an eye on, the tournament schedule, and the prize pool distribution, here’s everything you need to know about PGL Wallachia Season 7.

PGL Wallachia Season 7 will begin with the Group Stage on March 7 and conclude with the Grand Finals on March 15, 2026.

The seventh edition of the Dota 2 tournament will be held as an offline LAN event, with the same taking place at PGL Studio in Bucharest, Romania, on the Europe West server.

Season 7 is the first of three PGL Wallachia Dota 2 events scheduled for the 2026 season, and will conclude a week before ESL One Birmingham begins.

Sixteen teams, both invited and qualified, will compete in various stages for a major share of PGL Wallachia Season 7’s $1m (~£729,710) prize pool.

Twelve teams accepted the invitations sent by the PGL, which was revealed back on January 26, 2026. These include well-known organizations that defined 2025, including OG, Natus Vincere and Aurora Gaming, as well as international champions such as Team Falcons.

The rest earned their place in PGL Wallachia Season 7 by winning regional qualifiers. The tournaments took place in the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia, with teams playing their way through open and closed qualifiers. Four teams made it, including organizations like HEROIC, and unsupported rosters like the Power Rangers.

Undoubtedly, one of the top teams heading into the tournament is the PGL Wallachia Season 6 champion, MOUZ, who defeated Team Spirit 3-2 in the Grand Finals. Only time will tell if MOUZ will defend their title this time around.

Team Liquid is another team that stands out as the only team to win PGL Wallachia in more than one season. It has a long history in Dota 2, including being the 2024 and 2017 international champions and the first team to break Tundra Esports’ winning streak at the BLAST Slam series.

Yellow Submarine and Power Rangers stand out as the only unsponsored teams competing in the tournament. However, they both managed to beat teams like Virtus.pro and Zero tencity in Western Europe, and AVULUS and Team 1w in Eastern Europe, respectively, and may be the dark horses of the tournament.

PGL Wallachia Season 27 will start with the Group Stage. Sixteen teams will compete in the Swiss fixed format, where group matches will be determined by performance as the tournament progresses. A team is automatically relegated after three losses or promoted after three wins.

The games in the Group Stage are the best of three, and the top eight teams will advance to the Playoffs, with the rest eliminated.

After that, the Playoffs will change to a double-elimination bracket, where teams will fight for one of two spots in the Grand Finals. After a top-five tournament, only one team will walk away with the lion’s share of the $1m prize pool.

Unlike other Dota 2 tournaments like the Internationals, PGL Wallachia does not feature a live crowd. However, matches between the teams during the Bucharest tournament will be broadcast live on the official PGL Dota 2 channels Twitch, Kick and YouTube.

Teams will play for the lion’s share of the $1m prize pool, with Season 7 champions earning $300,000 for winning. Unlike other regions, such as the ESL Pro Tour, points will not be assigned to teams to influence qualification for future events.

The tournament is part of PGL’s $13m (~£9.6m) commitment to support the wider MOBA game ecosystem, promising $1m in prize pool money across 13 tournaments from 2025 to 2028.

Once PGL Wallachia Season 7 is over, there will only be two more seasons in 2026. Season 8 will be held from April 16 to 26, and Season 9 is scheduled for September 17 to 27, both in Bucharest, Romania.
