Sony Officially Shuts Down Shadow of the Colossus Developer Bluepoint Games
Thursday is coming to an end with shocking news in the gaming industry. It was recently announced that Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games, a studio that has become legendary for masterful remakes such as Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls.
The sad news comes from a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, where the sports reporter explained that a total of 70 employees were being laid off as part of the shutdown.

PlayStation fans have always been pretty good when it comes to exclusives, and PlayStation Studios is largely responsible.
According to this article, the studio will officially cease operations next month, marking the sudden end of one of PlayStation’s most talented engineering teams.
Sony Cites Business Review as Catalyst for Bluepoint Closure
According to a PlayStation spokesperson, the decision to close the studio follows “recent business reviews.” However, no other details were provided, and Sony still hasn’t spoken publicly about the news.
Despite the closure, a spokesperson for the company emphasized that Bluepoint consists of a team of incredibly talented developers with excellent technology, and thanked them for their years of hard work.
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their expertise has brought an exceptional experience to the PlayStation community,” a spokesperson said. “We thank them for their love, intelligence and expertise.”
Founded in 2006, Bluepoint Games has made a name for itself in bringing classic titles to modern consoles with well-crafted remakes, such as Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has brought exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community.
After the successful launch of the Demon’s Souls remake in 2020, the studio’s only public contributions were a supporting role in Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarök and a live-action title that was canceled in early 2025 before it was announced. With the studio set to close its doors next month, it seems they couldn’t release another project in time to save operations.
