What to Do With Retired Cats at Mewgenics

Mewgenics has a lot going on, and that’s a great thing. With everything packed into this game, it’s understandable that you’re a little confused or overwhelmed by some of the early options. This turn-based game has a lot of cats, young and old, to understand.

Retired cats are often the oldest in your group, depending on how you play the game. Once they are retired, you can no longer send them on adventures, but they still have a few uses.

10 Best Strategy Games With Roguelike Mechanics

DualShockers has put together a list of a few challenging and fun strategy games with a roguelike mechanic.

Of course, as in any good roguelike, things are never as simple as they seem. If you’re worried about how to spend your retired cats, this guide will explain why you should keep them around and what you can do with them.

What Should You Do About Retired Cats?

Retired cats are not only good for moving or making babies, but you will need to progress in the game until you reach a certain point. Once you reach Act 2, you’ll unlock home invaders like Guillotina. This is something that will happen from time to time, but we will explain it later. Retired cats are easy to spot because they are usually one solid color, from their color category, and will wear a small crown on them.

Most of your retired cats will be very valuable, so be careful how you handle them, because you can accidentally put yourself in a big bind if you get rid of the wrong ones. Of course, you can control this a lot, but for now, we’ll focus on their uses and provide some explanations for those uses.

Breeding Retired Cats

This is probably the usage that makes the most sense and is easy to understand. Your retired cats should be your best cats if you choose the ones with the highest stats to start with.

Whenever you have retired cats with good base stats, which you can see once you have sent enough cats, you can put them in one room of your house so they can start making other babies with better stats.

You can increase the chances of this happening by grabbing the right pieces of furniture and placing them in the rooms you want the cats to nest in. Don’t stress too much about making things pretty, but make sure you breed your cats correctly as it will make the game much easier.

Donating Retired Cats

One of the main uses of retired cats is to donate them to various people around the map to unlock more upgrades for your house or the next run. You will need to use retired cats for the following people in the city area:

  • Butch wants the cats to go places.
  • Frank is looking for retired cats of any breed.
  • Baby Jack is looking for injured cats.
  • Tracy is looking for cats age/grade five or older.
  • Dr. Beanies is looking for cats with genetic mutations, birth defects, disorders, or parasites.

In some of these, they won’t have to be retired, but for the most part, it’s easy to find retired cats with lots of donations. Try not to get rid of the ones you want to breed, but if you really need an upgrade, it’s not hard to find a few retired cats.

House Boss Defense Wars

You won’t get access to this until you unlock Act 2, but when you do, things get a lot more interesting. Retired cats find a new purpose because they are the only ones who can protect your home from intruders.

You will get a week’s notice to know when the raider is coming. This gives you time to prepare and perhaps breed cats that you would like to use for protection. On the previous day, you can go on an adventure with other cats you like and use them for defense, as long as they live that long.

Here is a list of the next House Bosses you can face:

  • The Guillotine
  • Guillotine 2
  • Guillotine 3
  • Pyrophina
  • They got to know each other
  • Pyrophina vs Zaratana
  • C-800
  • C-1000
  • Hitler III

These battles are very difficult, so you’ll want to make sure you come prepared and don’t try to do this willy-nilly. Use the time you get wisely and be sure to collect other items that may come in handy while taking on these powerful enemies.

While defeating these enemies gives you quests and helps you progress in the game, it doesn’t necessarily win the battle. The whole experience of losing your retired cats is dying.

If you manage to win, the cats become Super Retired and cannot be used for anything other than breeding and donations. They will probably be quite old by now, so make sure you take good care of your cats to get through the tough game.
