Xbox’s new CEO has no immediate plans to change the Multi-Platform strategy

In case you weren’t keeping up with gaming news last week, you might not know that Xbox boss Phil Spencer has retired, and will be replaced by new Xbox CEO and former CoreAI boss Asha Sharma.
For Xbox fans hoping that this will be a new era where we’ll only see Xbox games appear on the Microsoft platform, that doesn’t seem to be part of the plans — at least not initially.
10 Xbox Games That Defined Modern Gaming Plus Noted Gamers
These 10 original Xbox games helped invent and shape modern gaming today in ways that many modern gamers take for granted.
This is something that Sharma confirmed recently, although it was not a certainty that it would not change in the future.
Xbox Console Exclusivity Not Set in Stone With New CEO
While it is now a given that all games published through Xbox are eligible games to appear on competing platforms (ie PS5), that is something that may change under the new Xbox management.
Sharma was recently asked about this in a recent interview, and his answer was direct, although it left a lot of room for variation in the future.
Speaking to Windows Central, Sharma revealed that nothing was off the table when it came to reviewing Xbox’s strategy, but finalizing that strategy would take time and a lot of data collection.
Regarding the Xbox release strategy, Sharma noted, “a plan is a plan until it’s not a plan,” which sounds like they’ll be testing this multi-platform release thing to see if it’s something they should continue or not.
Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date Confirmed (Also Ducking GTA 6)
Insomniac Games announced the release date for Marvel’s Wolverine on Twitter/X, and it’s launching on PS5 ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6.
As Microsoft pursues a new Xbox console, fans of the brand may be relying more on Xbox-published games to be Xbox-only. I mean, Microsoft can make money with Xbox games from competing platforms, but if you really want to gain a foothold in the market, having your own platform-exclusive platform is the way to drive consumers to choose your console.
Sharma and other Xbox executives will no doubt talk about this, and if there are any changes to the company’s release strategy, expect to hear about it.
