10 Games to Play After Pragmata

Pragmata is an admittedly impossible game to put down. This hit by Capcom comes on the heels of the success of Resident Evil Requiem, and has given the development studio another big IP to work with.

If you’re like us and haven’t been able to figure out how great the relationship between Hugh and Diana is, but you’ve played the game to death, it might be time to try something new.

Rather than focusing on games with a similar gameplay to Pragmata, we continued to search for games with a similar story. A story that will show you the bond between parent and child, or give you the role of a caretaker.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Keeping each other safe

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons helps fill that emotional void created by Hugh and Diana’s story. Instead of playing as his father, he plays as his two brothers (hence the name). They travel through a dream world in search of a cure for their father’s illness.

Along the way, you see beautiful moments when brothers help each other and protect each other from danger. The co-op style single-player game is also unique, allowing you to control two characters at once.

If you are looking for a game that expresses your love of adventure and gives you that emotional defense story, Brothers is definitely one to try.

The Walking Dead: Season 1

The role of the Apocalyptic father

If it’s that father/daughter relationship you’re after, and you’re looking for something other than Pragmata, you should try Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Specifically, the first season is where you will find the most engaging story.

The first season follows the story of Lee Everett, a convicted criminal who gets a second chance after a military vehicle crashes and is attacked by zombies. He later meets Clementine, a young girl who offers Lee a bit of redemption in this post-apocalyptic world.

The first season is known for its heartwarming story, and many love the relationship between Lee and Clementine.

Citizen Evil: Revelation 2

Barry is back

Barry is the spiritual father figure of everyone in Resident Evil. He’s been there since the beginning, and he gets the main role in Resident Evil Revelations 2, by searching for his daughter who seems to be dead and saving another little girl.

The story begins by putting you in the shoes of Claire Redfield and Moira, Barry’s daughter, as they are trapped on an island controlled by Alex Wesker. After Claire arrives home and Moira doesn’t return, Barry sets out to rescue his daughter.

During his trip, Barry runs into Natalia, taking her under his wing and protecting her. Meanwhile, he steps in to save his daughter from Alex Wesker, in true family man fashion.

Bioshock

Save the Little Sisters

If you want the feeling of being a survivor, look no further than the game Bioshock. After disembarking, you find yourself in the city of Rapture – a huge underwater place.

Here, you will see many strange things, one of which is Big Fathers and Little Sisters. As you progress through the game, you meet more Little Sisters, and you can use your skills to harvest or save them.

If you decide to save the Little Sisters, you’ll finally get the good ending of Bioshock, where you and the girls escape the Rapture. Then you all go on living normal lives.

Disease Story: Innocence

Protect Your Little Brother

Instead of taking on the role of father, in A Plague Tale, he takes on the role of Amicia De Rune, Hugo’s older sister. Although the role of a father is not there, you still play the role of a parent, take care of someone who needs your help.

The story follows the two as they try to survive the disease and the hordes of rats along with it. The couple is being pursued by the Inquisition, who will stop at nothing to capture Hugo, making your role as protector all the more important.

There are two games in the series, the first being A Plague Tale: Innocence, and the second being A Plague Tale: Requiem. Both are great journeys that capture that emotional parental bond.

Death Stranding

Death Stranding is perhaps one of the most interesting games to come out in the last decade. You play as a porter – a delivery worker tasked with delivering items across the destroyed world.

Along the way, you are given a BB, or Bridge Baby, which allows you to hear BTs. Although it’s not a typical parenting story line, you feel a connection with the child you’re holding, as they help you throughout your journey.

The sci-fi setting also helps sell the similarity to Pragmata, which allows you to play the game in the same world, even if the parentage relationship is strange.

Fallout 4

Your son is out there

Bethesda has a knack for making stories in the Fallout franchise involving the Vault-Dweller family drama. In Fallout 4, however, you specifically choose whether to play as the mother or father of baby Shaun.

After the bombs fall, you and your spouse are forced into the cryo chambers along with your child, who is held hostage during the stasis period. You slowly wake up and watch the kidnapper shoot your wife and run away with your child.

Then you wake up, ready to walk across the desert to find your son. It’s another matter of parental responsibility, but one that will make you make many critical decisions that will shape the spilled environment.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Searching for Your Daughter

Geralt of Rivia is one of the game’s most recognizable characters. After all, he’s been in three Witcher titles, and each one has caught the eye of countless fans. The third title attracted many people because of its large open world, exciting combat, and good storytelling.

The Witcher 3 focuses on Geralt’s relationship with his adopted daughter Ciri, who is being hunted by the Wild Hunt. As he escapes the Wild Hunt, Geralt must track him down, leading you on a wonderful journey.

The game is defined by many narrative interactions, but none more so than the father/daughter bond between Geralt and Ciri, making it perfect for those looking for another parent-centric story like Pragmata.

God of War (2018)

The return of Kratos

The Last of Us may have started the “dad game” craze, but 2018’s God of War title continued the story of Kratos and his son Atreus. This article begins with Kratos and Atreus going to the highest peak of the Nine Realms to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife.

Along the way, Kratos guides his son, preparing him for life, while trying to hide his true identity. This is another title where you are cast in the role of parent, although it doesn’t strike the same note as Pragmata.

Despite the slightly harsh tone and Kratos not being the greatest dad in the world, the story still has an emotional weight that is sure to continue your love of the “dad game” sub-game.

The Last of Us: Part 1

Joel and Ellie

Although the role of the parent existed in games before The Last of Us, it was this series that really set the stage for so-called “dad games.” The title focuses on Joel and the fall of humanity, as a disease takes control, plunging the world into an apocalypse.

Joel meets Ellie and the two become emotionally close, leading Joel to treat Ellie like the daughter he lost at the beginning of the story. This article captures a lot of what you get in Pragmata, which is the bond between father and daughter.

Although the second title in the series is less emotional between Joel and Ellie, the two are still together, and Joel is still a father, trying to hold on to Ellie as much as he can.
