Time Travel Tactics RPG Gets Atomic Heart Crossover

Mundfish probably didn’t expect Atomic Heart to produce these many changes when it released a retrofuturistic shooter in 2023, but what seemed so little at the time was a seamless intersection with RPG tactics.

As revealed in a live stream today by Bluepoch, Atomic Heart introduces an in-game interaction with Reverse: 1999, a free-to-play RPG based in a world where time began to go back to 1999.

The Atomic Heart event is set to launch on July 23, marking the first time that the international and Chinese versions of Reverse: 1999 will be synchronized.

Witches, Twins, and Time Travel

In addition to taking on the genius of the Year 2000 issue, Reverse: 1999 presents some of the highlights from Atomic Heart in this new chapter.

The story will take the characters from Reverse: 1999 to the depths of Atomic Heart’s Facility 3826. It is also expected to include a new narrative for the regulars of Atomic Heart, especially the robots The Twins and NORA, the repair closet that is the main antagonist of the Annihilation Instinct DLC, which was launched the same year as the base game.

Aside from the narrative additions, Twins will be available as summons, featuring its own banner and reward system. The robot guards will be the first characters in Reverse: 1999 that cannot harm the two types of Aflattus. In keeping with their twin nature, they will also be able to use dual Psychubes, giving them two full sets of base stats.

Meanwhile, the four-star NORA can be rented as part of the game’s progression, neatly bundled with the free monthly pass.

If you’re new to Reverse: 1999, or just want a great start to the new update, you can enter the code AtomicHeartCollab0723 to get a set of rewards. To use it, go to the Settings menu, select Account, then click Download and Install. Bonuses will be added to your account automatically.

The Ever-Expanding Atomic Heartverse

Cube players and monster in battle

While Reverse: 1999 is Atomic Heart’s latest collaboration, Mundfish hasn’t been shy about crossovers featuring its top title. The game appeared in the 4X strategy title Revival: Colonization, flight sim lite War Thunder, tactical shooter Battle Teams 2, and WW2 first-person shooter World War Heroes.

These crossovers have the obvious marketing value of introducing Atomic Heart to a new audience, but I need to thank Mundfish for creating a game with such a unique identity despite being heavily based on Soviet futurism. The success of Atomic Heart also allowed the developer to expand throughout the house.

During the 2026 Summer Game Fest, Mundfish announced that it was working on a sequel to its pride and joy, aptly titled Atomic Heart 2. The new chapter sees the events of the first game expand on a global scale. There is no concrete release date for it yet, but the official release window is still slated for 2026. Tick tock, Mundfish.

The success of Atomic Heart also allowed the developer to expand in-house.

Apart from that, the developer is also working on the multiplayer RPG shooter CUBE. As you may have guessed from the name, it is centered around a large cube that appeared in the sky. The CUBE is part of the Atomic Heart universe, but it’s unclear how it fits into the original world. Then again, stranger things have happened.

Mundfish has been on the CUBE front, with no clear release window or platform information other than the fact that it’s confirmed to be on Steam.

Whether it will take months or years to come is anyone’s guess, but for now, we can guess what Atomic Heart’s next unlikely collaboration will be.

Throwback: 1999 is available for PC, iOS, Android, and HarmonyOS. The Atomic Heart crossover event was launched worldwide on July 23.
