Escape From Tarkov Details Big Balance Before Season One

If there’s one thing that can make or break the long-term replayability of a hardcore extraction shooter, it’s how rewarding (or frustrating, depending) the progression loop feels.
And it seems that Battlestate Games fully aware of that. As Escape From Tarkov prepares for the upcoming 1.1.0.0 updatescheduled to arrive mid-next week, the developers are already giving players plenty of reasons to be excited about getting back on the offensive.
Breaking Down the Chains of Work
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the rebalancing of the game ahead of Season One, the developers revealed a complete overhaul of the side job system. By breaking down the rigid, artificial roadblocks of the past, this change aims to breathe new life into the game’s replayability and give players real freedom in how they prepare to attack.
That means, under the 1.1.0.0 update, most missions will no longer force players to drop solid chains where every single objective remains locked behind the previous one. Instead, work progress is tied directly to vendor loyalty levels (LL).
From LL1 through the merchant, players will have access to a basic set of jobs. Completing these few quests will allow you to advance to LL2, which will unlock a new set of challenging objectives. To make things even more interesting for cash-strapped PMCs, the payouts for these jobs shift more toward cold, hard cash than supplementing your stash with status barter items and low-end gear.

Therefore, under this new framework, commercial and alternative offers operate in a more logical and structured manner. Most trade offers will now open immediately upon reaching a new level of loyalty with the trader, exceeding certain demand requirements. For example, players can expect items like the Tri-Zip backpack to be available as soon as they arrive in Ragman LL3, while high-level gear like the DevTac Ronin helmet unlocks instantly in Mechanic LL2.
That said, traditional demand chains have not completely disappeared, but their purpose has been slightly redefined. A select few jobs will remain organized in line chains regardless of the trader’s loyalty level, although this exception is reserved for unlocking more rare trade offers or unique recipes.
To keep things fair and eliminate unnecessary guesswork, the main rewards for this special job chain will be displayed immediately upon accepting the first quest, allowing players to check in advance whether the grind is really worth their time.
Ultimately, the main goal of this major rebalancing is to make progression feel less linear and less dependent on specific tasks, providing more efficient ways to find top-tier gear.
And the response across social media and social media has been overwhelmingly positive, with returning players celebrating the focus on rewarding real progress rather than wasted raw time. Some players have already noticed that this set of changes alone will make Season One feel fresh, especially during that first chaotic phase where everyone is running around as “Timmy” trying to find a new meta (we’ve all been there).
Although some Standard Account holders have raised minor questions about the potential hindrances to the merchant’s reputation, the overwhelming consensus is that this overhaul is a win for the long-term health of the game! But hey, seeing Battlestate Games actively refining progression to increase playability also makes jumping into Tarkov feel better than ever, right?
