Episode 8 revealed its Season 3 trailer at Tekken World Tour 2025 Global Finalsand the developers want to explain some aspects of the update gradually.

After Season 2 was met with frustration and complaints from competitive players, Bandai Namco spent most of the teaser trailer saying it could have been for a ‘refined balance’ and ‘more focus.’ It even stated that Season 3 will be a ‘fresh start.’ Now, developers want to explain that further.

FGC Angry at Lack of Change in Upcoming Season 3

In a recent blog post, the developers said: “Thank you for the amazing response to the Season 3 Trailer revealed at the Tekken World Tour 2025 Global Finals. Since its release, we have received many messages of excitement and anticipation, but at the same time, we have also seen other interpretations and speculations different from the development team’s intentions.”

With the update coming on March 17, the team wanted to explain some of the key changes coming to Tekken 8.

First, the developers noted that the term ‘back to basics’ used in the Season 3 trailer did not mean a ‘return to previous Tekken battle systems’ or any ‘complete changes.’ Instead, developers plan to make ‘continuous improvements’ rather than rebuilding in ‘one step.’ In other words, don’t expect Season 3 to change the heavy focus of the offensive gameplay introduced in Season 2 that inspired a major backlash.

Instead, Season 3 will bring minor combat changes such as Heat Smash removing the wall splat effect. There will also be balance changes to various character moves. Expect more updates ‘on a regular basis’ but don’t expect ‘big, fast changes’ in this update.

The comments under the Season 3 trailer include FGC hoping that Season 3 will make up for what Season 2 did, I believe the trailer said this. Now, however, players are expressing anger at the devs ‘backtracking’ from the idea of ’back to basics.’ The trailer felt very misleading, and FGC was left feeling hopeless about the state of Tekken 8.

“Dude, we’ve been asking for big changes all year… Now they’re saying they’re not doing it,” said another player.

Tekken 8 is still one of the most popular titles at events like Evo, but has been losing some interest in the competitive scene due to its ongoing balance and gameplay issues.
