Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Dies Before It’s Born Well

As the big version of Final Fantasy 14 prepares for the Evercold expansion, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile has announced that the planned global release has been cancelledand the currently active Chinese servers will be shut down, bringing the FF14 mobile experience to an end before it reaches its full potential.

LightSpeed Studios, the team behind FF14 Mobile, announced on the game’s official website that the game’s servers will be closed on September 30, so a global release will not happen. According to the announcement, this change of plans is due to changes in business operations and the current state of the gaming market. As a result, LightSpeed license agreement with Tencent that allowed the team to produce a mobile version of FF14 is terminated.

The end of the service of the currently live servers will be interrupted, and the schedule starts on July 17 at 18:00 (UTC+8) when the filling and registration of new users ends. Next, i the works were officially closed on September 30 at 11:00 (UTC+8). Finally, the forums and customer support services end on October 15 at 11:00 (UTC+8).

Final Fantasy 14’s Full Version is one again

FF14 Dawntrail

Since the mobile version of FF14 is only available in China, players living elsewhere are not as affected by this news. However, it’s unfortunate that players who are looking forward to trying out the mobile version will no longer have the chance to do so, as the global release has been cancelled.

I am among many players of the big version of FF14, and I have only one request for LightSpeed and Square Enix for the news of this change in the programs. Please make mobile special customization options available in the main game now that the mobile game is closed.

This change in plans is due to changes in business operations and the nature of the current gaming market.

Exclusive mobile content includes hairstyles and additional dye channels not available in the main game, which in turn gives players of the mobile version even more options when it comes to customizing their characters that we don’t have in the main game. Some of those hairstyles were really good, so I need them to be available in the game or at least through the online store.

Other exclusive content includes penguin-themed items that you can find in events, which is a feature of Tencent games, and a gacha feature that can give you hoverboard mounts and various mount skins. Although I don’t want to see gacha features added, I want customization options to be brought to the main game, as it would be a shame to leave them in the closed game version.

Final Fantasy 14 continues to go strong

Fantasy Final 14 Evercold Estinien Kick

Dawntrail may have received a lot of criticism, but FF14 as a whole has a solid reputation, and it shows no signs of ending anytime soon. The beastmaster mission is scheduled to arrive in the fall, and Evercold—the next expansion—is slated for release in early 2027. That, combined with the thousands of hours you can spend on the content currently available, means players of the mobile version do not have to say goodbye to the IP completelyas there is a whole world in the main version waiting to be tested.

If you don’t want to commit to a subscription, FF14 has a free trial for that it gives you unlimited playing timethe ability to reach level 80, and access to A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers. At that point, you definitely know if you want to commit to buying a subscription and taking the only expansions not included in the trial: Endwalker and Dawntrail.

Live service shows have had a tough time in recent years, and some of them have only managed to survive for a few weeks before shutting down. The FF14 mobile phone managed to survive for more than a yearand the cancellations ended up being due to business and market changes ending the license agreement rather than a lack of players. On the bright side, mobile players are more than welcome to join me and all the other Warriors of Light playing Final Fantasy 14.
