The Assassin has the ability to evade detection, allowing you to attack unsuspecting enemies and escape combat. When you play as an Assassin in Marathon, the opposing players will have to keep a close eye on you to prevent you from distracting them and controlling the battle. You can find a detailed description of Assassin’s abilities below.
- Invisible Systems (Technology): Active camo and synthetic smoke deployment allow invisible strikes or good cover during hostile engagements.
- Smoke Screen (Primary): Throw a smoke disc that emits a line of smoke fields in front of you, blocking the vision of those entering.
- Active Camo (Tactical): Activate your shell’s camouflage systems, pull a cloak of invisibility over yourself. Taking offensive actions, taking damage, and using abilities or consumables briefly interrupts your invisibility.
- Shadow Dive (Feature): Use while in the air to hit the smoke disc on the ground, releasing the smoke.
- Fabric (Feature): Your shell automatically activates its camouflage systems when it enters any smoke zone, making you invisible. Invisibility continues for a while after leaving the smoke.

Killing Techniques
In order to play well as an Assassin in Marathon, it is very important that you understand the best time to use the Smoke Screen and the Active Camo skill. Simply put, you want to take a tactical approach to combat.
The best time to use Smoke Screen is if you renew your colleagues whenever need to escape the firefight to find cover. If a partner is knocked down mid-battle, opposing players will continue to shoot the downed player to take them out completely, or target you to prevent you from reviving them. The Smoke Screen makes it more difficult for them to spot you, allowing you to find time to revive said partner.
You can also test your luck by shooting through the smoke and try to capture the enemy. To do this, you will need to be aware of the enemy’s exact location before using Smoke Screen as it also blinds your vision.

Forget jumping and sliding, we’re going slow.
If you find yourself in an open area with no cover and the UESC or opposing players start shooting at you, it’s best to use Smoke Screen so you and your teammates can escape to get out of the enemy line.
Active camo it can also be used to escape enemy lines when caught in the open, but the best time to use it is during combat. The strategy I use consists of being behind cover, opening camouflage, leaving cover, and moving around with my back to the enemy team. Doing this right will cause the enemy to think you’re behind, when you’re actually sneaking up behind to take them out.
The Best Team
Shells are best paired with Assassin in Marathon Triage again Recon. The former is a must for any team as it essentially acts as a healer and keeps your team alive, while the former can be used to compliment the Assassin’s ability to use stealth and smoke screens.
Having Triage on your team is self-explanatory. Its ability to keep your health bar high by using its Med-Drones results in you using fewer health kits and shield chargers, while its Reboot+ ability makes it easier to revive when you’re down.
On the other hand, the Recon comes equipped with the ability Echo Pulse, which sends out radar pulses that suppress any nearby enemies. This makes it easier for the Assassin to find enemies and other players to kill while hiding, which is important since hiding doesn’t last very long. Also, Recon sings to the whole team when he does a finishing move on one of them.
