Capcom Almost Developed Citizen Evil As A Live Service

Rumor has it that just hearing the words “live service,” “multiplayer,” or Umbrella Corps it’s enough to give a Resident Evil fan nightmares for a week – and it turns out that Requiem almost gave them another reason to lose sleep. Luckily for us, however, that didn’t happen!
It is because Koshi Nakanishidirector of CapcomThe latest song, revealed in a recent video, adds to the official Resident Evil portal where the team tested ideas such as online co-op and an open world setting for Resident Evil Requiem early in development.

“Things like online Resident Evil or open-world Resident Evil, which we’ve spent time trying,” Nakanishi explained, while fans everywhere felt shivers and didn’t even know why at the time.
Fortunately, the developers took a step back to consider what the fan community really wanted, ultimately concluding that the classic single-player experience was the way to go. “In the end, although we had some interesting points, we realized it wasn’t something the fans wanted to see or play. So we went back to the drawing board,” he added.

Going back to the roots paid off, obviously
Nakanishi and his team’s decision to keep the franchise close to its horror roots has certainly proven to be true, as Resident Evil Requiem has earned critical acclaim worldwide, boasting a score of 90 with a 96% approval rating on OpenCritic.
The team experimented with ideas like online co-op and an open world setting for Resident Evil Requiem early in development.
