Black Flag Reunited Looks Amazing in Reveal Trailer, Launches July 9 – WGB

After leaking more than Edward Kenway’s old bathtub, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remastered it was finally shown in an 8+ minute trailer, and it looks great.

13 years after the game was launched, Re-synchronized it is a complete overhaul of what many people consider to be the best AC game in history and one of the best pirate games. This overhaul is done in the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, which itself powers it Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

First, the graphics. It looks bloody amazing. To steal the top comment of Gergopahollo’s video, “It’s amazing to see this because this is what Black Flag looks like in my head lmao.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

On console, this enhanced look will be available in “60 FPS options” or you can choose the fidelity mode of 30FPS. There is also a 40FPS balanced mode option for those with a 120hz screen.

Game director Richard Knight also addressed a potential major concern: “Assassin’s Creed: Black Resynced is important to us and to you. That’s why we took the time to rebuild it with due care. This is still a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It’s not an RPG.”

There was a lot of concern before the announcement that we would try to do a remake Black Flag as modern Assassin’s Creed games, and thus destroy what the fans loved.

Although the original story has not been touched, there is new content being added, based around three new team members: Lucy Baldwin: The Padre, and Deadman Smith. They will add new ship abilities, as well as new quest lines that explore who they are and why they ended up teaming up with Edward Kenway.

On the ship front, things have improved significantly there. There is new firepower thanks to weapons that get alt-fire, and now you can have a monkey or a cat running around the ship. There are even new beach shacks to like. Without a doubt, the best part of the whole game was just walking around, listening to the team sing.

Oh, and now there’s a seamless transition between sailing and land. Just drag, jump, stab other people, jump and sail away as if nothing happened.

Combat has also been used, although this is one area I’m still unsure about. The premise is an “action-oriented experience” based on fighting opponents, allowing you to unleash chain-removals. The combat in the original game was terrible, so almost anything would be better, but this didn’t speak to me.

Parkour has been developed with elements such as free jumps, back ejects and side ejects. In theory, this should provide more accurate movement.

As for trickery, you can now crouch whenever you want and freely enter wherever you like in the water. Light and shadow will also have an effect now, which should help spice things up a bit.

Many players also went out the door, as the team wanted to focus on one player. However, the original game will always be sold, so you can always look for multiplayer there.

“With Resynced, we made a clear choice,” said Resynced creative director Paul Fu. “It’s a pure, story-driven adventure, and we’re completely focused on Edward’s adventures in the Caribbean. Because of this focus, we’ve chosen not to have multiplayer, or DLC. Resynced takes the original legend of 2026, and for those of us who are curious, the original is yet to be found.”

And it seems like a lot of present-day stuff involving Desmond has also been jettisoned in order to keep the focus on Kenway and his crew of nuts, although wording suggests that a few episodes will remain.

“Today, the present day has changed. In Black Flag Resynced, we approached it in a way that focused on Edward’s journey while still connecting his memories with the Animus. The modern break in Black Flag Resynced will have new moments focused on Edward’s inner struggle.”
