Escape From Tarkov Lead Game Designer Leaves Following Release 1.0

All things must pass, and nowhere does the phrase ring truer than in the classic shooter Escape From Tarkov.
Following an early access cycle that lasted from 2017 until the end of 2025, Escape From Tarkov finally launched, closing a chapter in the history of Battlestate Games, but also for many of the core team that made it possible.
The latest name to join the post-release exodus is Escape From Tarkov veteran game designer, Jean Tyulegenov.
The Engineering Mastermind Behind Escape From Tarkov Goes
Career changes are common, as are departures after the completion of any major project, but Tyulegenov’s exit is particularly striking given his influence on what made Escape From Tarkov such a phenomenon.
Tyulegenov has been working on the game since October 2017 and quickly rose to the position of Lead Game Designer within six months of working at Battlestate Games.
It didn’t take long after the launch of early access for Escape From Tarkov to rise from a fierce niche game to a global phenomenon, behind the ideas of director Nikita Buyanov and the ability of Jean Tyulegenov to turn this into gameplay mechanics.

It works quacktacularly.
Escape From Tarkov’s journey was by no means an easy one, almost every part of the game was constantly negotiating to find that perfect balance between stressful reality and fun gameplay. I don’t know about you, but I got my money’s worth after sinking north of 3000 hours into the game since I bought it.

Now that you can play Escape From Tarkov, and some of the key faces behind it have made the jump, it’s hard to say what the future holds for the game. Tarkov still retains tens of thousands of active players despite its occasional penchant for conflict, and while many games have learned from it, there is still no experience quite like it.
Besides Jean Tyulegenov, BSG also parted ways with the heads of advertising and PR Dmitri Ogorodnikov and German Terekhov. The latter recently left to found a new studio, Nomion Games, who are working on a shooter called Rush is Real.
Meanwhile, Escape From Tarkov creator Nikita Buyanov is also playing a new game, a hardcore sci-fi FPS set in 2251 called Fragmentary Order.
As a staunch supporter of the Two Cakes Theory, the dream scenario is that the next ten years of refining Escape From Tarkov will have graduated many developers who are ready to take those lessons and put them to good use in new concepts.
