Okay, guess I was wrong: Teamfight won’t save 2XKO

I just said that 2XKOThe latest fuse, Teamfight, will save the fighting game from death for the next year or so. But it looks like I’m wrong.
Teamfight is down today, and the pros aren’t feeling it. In fact, some feel that he completely destroyed the fighting game.
- Death, taxes, and operational difficulties: Evo Japan should not be an Evo event
- 2XKO won’t stay in FGC, and it’s Riot Games’ fault
Teamfight Causes Major Backlash in FGC
2XKO is a 2v2 fighter, technically. There should be two people on each side, both holding a different champion. However, most people play it alone. This means that these players hold two championships.
Teamfight is the latest fuse. It allows both characters to come out at the same time, hitting their opponents together for a full four seconds. It felt strong, but I felt it was a good way to encourage FGC to finally play 2v2 as intended. It seemed to be the only way to keep the game alive.
However, experts hate it. Well, some of them.
William “Leffen” HjelteMelee player turned 2XKO competitor, has been very vocal about his disdain for Teamfight. He called it “the most balanced mechanic” he had ever seen.
He added: “It’s really confusing how they can release something so clearly unfinished with how good the patches have been lately. Even the visuals and sounds are nowhere near ready. It’s legit like six months maybe a year away from being ready, in my opinion.”
Steve “Supernoon” Carbajal he even demanded it be banned from Combo Breaker, Evo, and other upcoming FGC tournaments. He called it “broken” as it is now.
“I don’t think this Teamfight fuse should be allowed in Combo Breaker / EVO. It’s completely unbalanced and ruins every aspect of the game. I see a lot of the same feelings from other pro players. We can’t allow this rock at all,” he said.
On the other hand, Dominique “SonicFox” McLean he is a big fan of Teamfight. They explained that it’s a great way to shake up the meta and force players to choose other fuses. Give us a break from Freestyle. They also noted that there are two weeks to prepare for the upcoming tournament.
I think either side could argue, sure. But I think the real issue is that pros don’t even think about going 2v2. They are frustrated with the way Teamfight works in their single-player bracket. It doesn’t seem like the top players want 2v2 to happen.
And without 2v2, I’m not sure how 2XKO will survive. It’s just another very difficult fighting game at this point. It will always have a niche following, but Riot doesn’t want to support a “niche” financially.
