Gamescom 2026 Relies on Sustainability, Accessibility, and Democracy

Conventions in large cities will have excellent results. There is really no avoiding that harsh reality. At the same time, that’s what makes it so important for people who run big events to have good heads on their shoulders who are willing to do their part to participate in important causes and be green and green every year again.
This year, Gamescom, the world’s largest gaming conference held annually in Cologne, Germany, is improving things in several key areas in terms of social interaction, accessibility, and the environment. According to the press release provided by Gamescom itself, let’s go into everything the event is doing this year to affect positive change.
Regarding overall accessibility at the show, Gamescom has provided exhibitors and show organizers with updated and expanded guidelines to ensure that as many areas of the show are designed to be as inclusive as possible. Steps have been taken over the years to make it accessible to attendees, but to see it at the forefront in 2026 is commendable.
Awareness and Safer Space locations are also being expanded in 2026, with the addition of additional awareness staff on site to ensure that all patrons feel safe, secure, and comfortable at all times, regardless of personal needs.
This year, Gamescom… is stepping things up in a few very important areas in terms of social, accessibility, and environmental reach.
Gamescom also aims to significantly reduce food waste by 2026, partnering for the first time with local organization Tafel Köln eV, which will work with on-site food vendors to repurchase excess food at the end of the day/service period.
Trash Galore, another company that Gamescom has partnered with in previous years, is back again, and it focuses on repurchasing equipment after the show is over. Last year, they were able to salvage or reuse 2,260kg of what would otherwise have been wasted, saving 5,000kg of CO2 in the process.
More efforts and expansion will also be made in the Gamescom Forest, which is exactly what it sounds like. To help repair as much as possible and do its part for the environment, Gamescom has been planting and growing a real forest in Germany, which is currently 33,500 square meters.
GDQ Brings Their Fundraising Spirit to the Show
If you’re at all familiar with GDQ, then you know that the world’s most popular speed racing community has had a ridiculous amount of power over the years with impressive “multi-billion dollar” fundraising. For the first time in their histories, GDQ and Gamescom are coming together this year for several live streaming events during the days of the show.
For anyone in the audience who likes to run fast, this is amazing news. Personally, I watch GDQ broadcasts all the time, so being able to catch the action live in Germany this August is incredibly exciting. Even better, GDQ uses their fundraising skills at Gamescom as well.
Throughout the show, GDQ and Gamescom will be raising money for Gaming for Democracy.
