The latest Mouse PI finally lets you go back

When Mouse: PI For Hire launched, the game quickly grabbed the industry’s attention as a stunning looking, sound-inspired shooter that delivered the 1930s rubber-tube animation style – like a twisted head with guns.

It was a gritty, jazz-inspired detective story wrapped in a classic cartoon aesthetic, gaining fame for its atmosphere while challenging players with its maze-like levels and hidden secrets. However, there was a piece missing from this beautiful puzzle, pointed out by both critics and the player community: the inability to easily revisit previous levels.

In a game packed with collectibles and unhackable side content, accessing the credits means leaving part of your detective work unfinished — and, speaking as a completionist myself, no one really likes the idea of their painstaking search for secrets being cut short by the point of no return. However, the status of this noir mouse has just changed!

Case Reopened and Fully Repaired This Time

Thankfully, the developers listened, completely brushing aside any serious design hurdles with their biggest update yet.

In the official posting of Update v1.2.1 On Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the studio has finally introduced the much-requested “Level Revisit” feature. This addition fundamentally changes the post-game dynamic, giving players the ability to replay previously completed levels directly from the global map to grab missing collectibles and wrap up any incomplete side quests.

And it looks like the implementation is great: finishing the game now automatically transports players to the HUB area after the credits roll, giving full access to the map.

And, besides letting players go back to previous situations, the episode introduces a very long list of quality-of-life enhancements and technical overhauls designed to make exploration feel smoother than ever – and you’ll need a cup of coffee to read it all, because I wasn’t kidding when I said “very long”.

You can find everything written in the patch notes, but one of the highlights involves the fact that the game now supports Uncapped Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for compatible displays and also has full native support for ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitor settings, next to the performance optimization for everyone to find love for everyone.

Looking at the large list, we can notice that the development team is very focused on fixing bugs, addressing various stability concerns that have been slowing down performance, especially on the Xbox Series X|S. For example, they removed a series of console-specific memory crashes on consoles, especially during heavy areas such as “Bandel’s Mansion” and “World’s Fair”, and removed the invisible walls that trapped players in the “Deep” and “Office Ruins” tasks. Other audio and localization hiccups were also systematically addressed, ensuring that everything from weapon sound loops to Turkish and Polish subtitles sound flawlessly. Finally, the patch introduces some important failsafes, meaning that anyone who accidentally skipped the kickstart tutorial early on will no longer find themselves automatically stuck in later areas.

However, one thing is certain now: with all these stability fixes and the freedom to replay any mission at will, Jack’s detective adventure is finally in its definitive, most polished form. So, if you haven’t given Mouse: PI for Hire a chance yet, there’s no better time than now!
