Gray Zone Warfare: UNLRA Task Walkthrough

Many aspects of Gray Zone Warfare have driven me to the brink of visual bankruptcy, but none of them more than the UNLRA’s desire.

While the quest mechanics aren’t anything special, they do require you to fight your way through three LAF checkpoints right around the Tiger Bay Mall and Harrison major COP, which are on fire more often than not.

No matter how dangerous, Handshake requires you to cover all of Tiger Bay to get dirt from the failed UNLRA exit in Lamang, so pack your bags and get in the chopper.

This walkthrough has been updated to match the new UNLRA application introduced in the 0.4 Spearhead update.

Gray Zone Warfare: UNLRA Walkthrough

UNLRA’s quest pits it against criminals and the Lamang Armed Forces, in addition to more likely encounters with PMCs from other groups.

LAF soldiers manning the checkpoints are armed with improved versions of the Pantsir vest, rated at NIJ level III+, and are often armed with AK-12 rifles. Their standard ammunition is the 7N10 (5.45x39mm PP) round, which defeats armor up to level III.

The pirates, who you will fight in the UNLRA HQ building and the dorms in the container, do not pose much of a threat due to their weak equipment and low-quality ammunition.

During my attempts to complete the quest, the biggest problem was running into some PMCs raiding Tiger Bay. Given how much walking there is, the best way to survive is to avoid being seen. Take a gun with a suppressor and a scope or magnifier. Clearing checkpoints won’t always be quiet, but this buys you a few precious seconds before the NPCs return fire.

Gray Zone Warfare Range and Rifle Custom Weapons

Here are the locations, prices, and traders for all the special camo weapons introduced in update 0.4.

Most importantly, unless someone else opens the door for you, you need to have the UNLRA HQ Office Key Card in your inventory to complete the application.

This item has a small chance of spawning in enemy pockets in Tiger Bay, and has permanent spawns in the entrance tent of the UN container houses (133, 201) and the UN officer’s apartment near the cafeteria near the northeast UNLRA checkpoint (131,197).

I strongly recommend that you secure the keycard before accepting the request. You are free to start the quest without it, but chances are, that will lead to death and having to start over, on top of losing dignity by shaking hands.

Find Intel at UNLRA’s Southern Observatory

Gray Zone Warfare UNLRA 01

Your first goal is to warm up a little. Go to the UN checkpoint by the bridge south of Tiger Bay (124, 202). You’ll have to wipe out a small gang there, but nothing else.

On the west side of the road, you will find a blue folder (UN Pre-Crisis Analysis). Read it and report to Handshake to continue.

Gather Intel From the LAF’s first checkpoint in Tiger Bay

With that out of the way, you should now hit the LAF checkpoint on the south side of Tiger Bay (127, 201). This area is guarded by at least five soldiers, and leaves you exposed from the bandits at the floating restaurant to your right, as well as from the gas station on your way.

Once you’ve dispatched the troops, enter the tent and deal with the fortified laptop on the desk next to the radios.

Gather Intel From the LAF’s Second Checkpoint in Tiger Bay

Your next stop is the LAF checkpoint on the north side of Tiger Bay (132, 198).

While there’s nothing stopping you from running across town if you have a death wish, I prefer to backtrack to the Juliett 3 landing pad and take the short flight to Juliett 1 to avoid fighting half of the city.

The Sawmill northwest of Fort Narith has more than just sawdust.

The road leading to the checkpoint gives you good lines of sight to take out more guards, but as you approach the area, you’ll also have to deal with soldiers roaming the road as you turn right, as they can shoot at the tent.

Clear the area, then enter the tent and scan the green folder on the desk with the white coffee mug (LAF UNLRA Deal) to continue.

Find a UNLRA Working Terminal Inside Their HQ in Tiger Bay

Gray Zone Warfare UNLRA 05

Your next stop is the UNLRA headquarters, located in the northeast corner of the city (132, 201). Make sure you have the key card before arriving at the property. Alternatively, if you’re feeling lucky, you can hide in the woods and wait for someone else to open the door for you or ask a team member to help you.

Whichever course you choose, enter the building through the front door and turn right to find a door with a keycard reader on the left. Once inside, interact with the open computer.

Search UNLRA Container Dorms and Find Out What’s Happening in R. Taylor

Gray Zone Warfare UNLRA 08

As it turns out, the terminal is locked behind a security card, not the one you used to enter the room. You need to get the credentials of the UN official R. Taylor, and Shaking Hands accurately thinks you’ll find him in the box dorms across the street.

Although R. Taylor not available for comment, you can find his body in the storage room in the northeast corner of the dorms. Search him to retrieve the security card.

Use Security Card to Access Terminal and Download Data from Server

With the protection card in your inventory, run back to the terminal in the HQ building. Access data using an R card. Taylor, and when you’re done, connect to the PC tower to eject the USB drive.

Finally, all you have to do is bring it back to the domain or a friendly outpost to give it to Handshake and complete the UNLRA quest.

Once it’s under your team’s control, you can hit the COP Diamond to the east. I would caution against using LZ India 2 as an ingredient because of the wookiees in the jungle shooting down the hills. You can go north past the dorms in the jungle to get to Juliett 1 or Oscar 3, which are usually quiet LZs.
