Toby Fox Gives an Exciting Review of Deltarune Chapter 6 Release

Toby Fox gave Deltarune fans an exciting update in his latest newsletter, as Chapter 6 is further along in development than anyone thought.

Deltarune was always promoted as an episodic release, although fans back in 2018 had no idea that there would be such huge gaps between releases. Creator Toby Fox has never specified how many Deltarune chapters there will be, although many fans think there will be seven, with the entire story taking place over the course of a week.

It was announced during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct that Deltarune Chapter 5 launches on June 24, 2026, and will be a free update for those who purchased the previous release. In an email sent to his newsletter subscribers, Toby Fox has revealed more details about Deltarune Chapter 6, and they have high hopes.

Deltarune Chapter 6 Is Closer To Completion Than Fans Thought

According to Fox, Deltarune Chapter 6 is easy to develop for reasons he didn’t go into. A lot of work has been completed in the chapter already, including many of the enemies and boss battles, and much of the content that needs to be completed is linked to NPC interactions.

Fox went on to say that he thinks some of the staff will no longer be working at Deltarune Chapter 7 by the end of the year. This solidity suggests that Deltarune Chapter 6 may start next year once the crew has already moved on to the next part of the game.

A lot of work has been completed in the chapter already, including many of the enemies and boss battles, and much of the content that needs to be completed is linked to NPC interactions.

It also reveals that this is the first time that Fox has confirmed that Deltarune Chapter 7 exists, and that the game will go that far. It’s still possible that the story will end at that point, assuming there isn’t some sort of Deltarune Chapter 0 that serves as a prequel to the game, though that’s very possible, considering how the first chapter started.

If progress goes this well, it is possible that Deltarune Chapter 7 will be launched in 2028, marking the tenth anniversary of the release of the first game. Then, when the story is finished, fans can finish their other universes and OCs in peace, like they’ve been doing with Undertale all this time, since there won’t be any future content to contradict it.

Naturally, delays are still possible, but progress on Deltarune has picked up speed over the years, and the gaps between content are getting shorter. If Deltarune Chapter 6 launches next year, then the series will switch to an annual release schedule, something fans have been waiting for since the beginning.

The question now is what exactly will happen in the next chapters? The Deltarune Chapter 5 trailer has a lot of floral content, which Undertale fans have pointed to as Flowey’s references, right down to the same attack pattern from the Omega Flowey boss battle. What this means in the grand scheme of things is unclear, as Flowey as an entity does not exist in the world of Deltarune.

It’s possible that Deltarune Chapter 5 will provide a more tangible connection to Undertale, possibly with Flowey or Chara appearing as a multi-dimensional character. It is also possible that the Dark Fountain of the chapter will be associated with Asgore, a person with a strong connection to flowers, and the player may learn more about his past and his connection to the Dess Holiday case.

Either way, Deltarune fans are excited that new content is just a few weeks away, and if Toby Fox is to be believed, then the whole game might not be far off.
