Singapore’s GIC leads record US$30B Series G in Anthropic round

The startup is now valued at around US$380 billion
Singapore’s economic fund GIC led a US$30 billion Series G funding round for a US-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) company. Anthropic. The startup is now valued at around $380 billion, and is one of the largest private equity funds in technology to date.
According to a press release, the deal underscores the growing appetite of global investors for companies on the AI frontier as competition in the space intensifies.
Founded by former OpenAI researchers in 2021, Anthropic positioned itself as a major player in business artificial intelligence with its Claude family of large model languages. According to Anthropic, demand from companies has grown rapidly, with companies using Claude for applications ranging from coding and research to document analysis and automation.
The new capital will be channeled into expanding AI research, strengthening computing infrastructure, and expanding product capabilities. As AI models become more powerful and more expensive to train, access to deep databases is emerging as a key competitive advantage.
The funding also builds on GIC’s previous participation in Anthropic’s previous Series F round, which reflects the private equity fund’s long-term investment strategy of supporting high-growth technology companies across multiple sectors.
The announcement came after Singapore’s 2026 Budget statement
The funding announcement comes shortly after Singapore’s Budget 2026 was delivered yesterday afternoon (Feb 12), where Prime Minister Lawrence Wong shared that the government has set plans to use AI as a strategic asset to the country’s economy, workforce and industry.
PM Wong also announced the establishment of the National AI Council, where he will personally lead the national AI agenda and drive forward targeted activities in areas such as advanced manufacturing, finance and healthcare; emphasizing real results rather than individual pilots.
Budget 2026 also expands support for AI adoption through business-friendly incentives, including:
- The Enterprise Innovation Scheme will be expanded to include AI expenditure, amounting to S$50,000 per assessment year in 2027 and 2028.
- The launch of the AI Champions programme, which aims to support firms with the desire to use AI to completely transform their business.
- The Manufacturing Solutions Grant will now include a wide range of digital and AI enabled solutions
- It offers six months of free access to premium AI tools to Singaporeans who take selected AI training courses.
As countries rush to capture AI economies and strategies, Singapore is putting both the policy and investment foundation in place to become a hub for cutting-edge AI innovation, business discovery and human development.
