Evo announces new tournament venues coming in 2027, including Saudi Arabia

The FGC expressed concern about it Come onprominence after the announcement of five new tournaments on February 23, 2026.
Evo is currently regarded as the biggest fighting game event of the year, with Vegas Victory considered the most prestigious title for many titles. However, Evo continues to grow, and more tournaments may diminish the importance of the Evo championship title.

- Despite hate and an apple stuck in his teeth, Cody Schwab scores a stunning victory at the GENESIS X3 Melee Major

FGC Not Happy With Continued Expansion of EVO
After the Saudi Arabian company RTS took full control of the Evo, the FGC expressed some concern about this latest development. In a recent blog post, titled ‘Beginning The Next Evolution,’ the Evolution Championship Series assured fighting game fans that no ‘policies, product values, level of investment, format, or expectations’ will be changed at the legacy events in Vegas, Japan and France.
Instead, Evo hopes to bring the experience to ‘global multiplayer’ with a new destination and community programs. From 2026, Evo will start providing ‘local support’ to communities by providing more equipment and solutions to local people.
Then, the following places will join Vegas, Japan, and France in 2027:
- Singapore
- Brazil
- Morocco
- Mexico
- Saudi Arabia
- China

In addition to the new locations, Evo also announced a new championship format, where players try to qualify for the Fighting Game World Championship by participating in Evo events throughout the year.
“We will be working closely with our partner publishers to determine which titles will be included in this format and will have more information for you later this year,” reads the press release.
“Furthermore, we will be working closely with the community to help identify which modern and professional titles should represent the breadth of fighting games in this new tournament, focusing on competition, not entertainment.”
The Fighting Game World Championship will be held in either the United States or Japan, possibly aiming to replace the Vegas tournament as the biggest fighting game event of the year. Having a tournament would mean there is still one big event with a lot of prestige, which would ease some concerns from experts and fans about the loss of Evo’s importance amid continued expansion.
However, the regression of FGC has been very strong. Many still feel that having too many events still takes away from the original Evo feel. The fighting game world often prides itself on its low-key feel, but the big world circuit doesn’t have that feeling of many competitors.
