Overwatch February 24th buffs and nerfs

Jetpack Cat seemed like a great addition to the hero lineup at first, an innocent-looking orange cat that flies around with big, Puss In Boots-style eyes. However, the Overwatch community quickly turned on him, realizing that his low skills and powerful abilities were breaking the game.

With infinite air travel and a small hitbox, the Jetpack Cat is able to knock back many aggressive plays before reaching safety, further frustrated by its damage-boosting hero benefits. His ultimate, which ensures the elimination of the enemy, was also seen as a big problem when using high-level players.

Join Game Director Alec Dawson he said before this clip: “The things that people choose the most are the ones that are the most aggressive. The aggressiveness that he has right now, it can kill him very much in a short window.”

Now, the Jetpack Cat gets a feel for its benefits:

  • Claws Out (Minor Perk): Cooldown increased from 6 to 8 seconds
  • Area (Great Perk): Damage reduced from 50% to 33%

On top of Jetpack Cat’s much-needed nerf, other heroes saw immediate changes. The new tank Domina has her Panopticon skill increased by 12%. New DPS Anran has reduced the cooldown of Inferno Rush from 8.5 to 8 and the movement range of his Dancing Blaze has increased to 2.25 meters.

Emre’s Synthetic Burst Rifle had increased damage, Vendetta’s Palatine Fang had reduced swing damage and Mizuki had her Kekkai Sanctuary ability increased from 6 to 7 seconds.

It’s not a big episode, but it does talk about some of the community’s response to recent superheroes.

How Does This Affect Overwatch Esports?

Pro players have been practicing with Jetpack Cat and other new heroes, incl Overwatch Championship Series Bootcamp they don’t abuse. Han’Chiyo‘ Hyeon-seok was outstanding in his portrayal of the highly skilled Jetpack Cat.

For now, however, the hotfix won’t significantly affect pro play. The first major LAN isn’t coming until April 2026, which means Jetpack and other heroes won’t see pro play on stage for at least another month.

The changes made to Jetpack Cat haven’t gone too far, and the hero is still a powerful support option. However, it is unknown if he will be used in official tournaments more than other known heroes. With the crazy walk and the healing it provides, it’s definitely possible.
