Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.4.0 Features Updated Operating System

Survival shooter Gray Zone Warfare has revealed major details of its upcoming patch 0.4.0, codenamed Spearhead.

As Gray Zone Warfare refocuses on PvE Dynamics, the game has restructured its job system to, frankly, make it a little more fluid.

In an all-too-common problem in serious games (looking at you, Tarkov), the current quest structure relies on either hanging around for an hour trying to find a little thing in an obscure description, or Alt-Tabbing to check the Wiki.

Starting with patch 0.4.0, missions will have a clearly defined location on the map, accompanied by smart graphics where appropriate, so you should be able to get through the courses without having to exit the game.

The Most Anticipated Survival Game of 2026 Finally Has a Price and Release Date

There are still three months left before we enter the border.

Merchant quests and progressions are also getting a major redesign, so you won’t have to spend hours in the starting cities.

The renewed focus on the story and PvE aspects is a nice change of pace, following in the footsteps of ARC Raiders as both games try to establish a healthy, long-term strategy where shooting by xxxDadSlayer67xxx and all the balancing issues that come with putting PvP first aren’t an integral part of the gameplay experience.

Gray Zone Warfare Spearhead LLA

To support this, non-playable groups have received a major overhaul. You will get to fight with different factions visually and mechanically: pirates, rebels, regional PMCs, and many more. Say goodbye to the era of shooting Flip-Flop Joe or Cracked Army Guy, with no in between.

New and Used Weapons

Gray Zone Warfare Spearhead Combat

As has become the norm in Gray Zone Warfare, every major episode comes with a selection of new weapons to face in the jungles of Lamang.

The upcoming Spearhead update brings a healthy mix of new and classic weapons, especially if you’re into Vietnam-era gear. Let’s go through them in order, because history is interesting.

Springfield M14

Gray Zone Warfare Spearhead New Weapons

When the Soviet Union adopted the Kalashnikov rifle in early 1949, the United States military was not ready to release the M1 Garand. This culminated in the M14, a sniper rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO.

Although its life as a common rifle was short thanks to a certain Eugene Stoner, the M14 enjoyed a long second life as a rifle of choice. Perfect for a long-range shot across the lake at Midnight Sapphire.

Sa vz. 58

Often (and unfairly) called the Czech Kalashnikov, the vz. 58 is a completely different weapon, first available in 1959.

I vz. The 58 has a gas stroke system and a milled receiver. The bolt remains open after firing the last round, making reloading faster and easier than the AK series.

Expect at least modern kits for vz. 58 for accessories, making it a powerful weapon even in the early game as it accepts standard 7.62x39mm Kalashnikov magazines, which the average bandits love in Gray Zone Warfare.

Colt M16A1

Despite a rough trial period, the M16 replaced the M14 as the standard American grunt rifle in the late 1960s. The M16A1 (née XM16E1) solved the most critical problems, solidifying the AR-15 platform as the epitome of a modern rifle.

The M16A1 comes with a 20-inch chrome-plated barrel and fires the lighter 5.56x45mm NATO round. The standard carry handle is compatible with ACOG scopes, but you can also install handguards with Picatinny rails to mount accessories.

KAC KS-1

The most modern rifle to make it to Gray Zone Warfare is the KS-1 assault rifle, Knight’s Armament Company’s (KAC) modernized AR-15.

The KS-1 has recently been selected for British special forces and will compete with the Daniel Defense DDM4 as the latest western game rifle.

Laugo Arms Alien

Finally comes the Laugo Arms Alien, a modern Czech semi-automatic 9x19mm pistol that stands out with its aggressive looks and modern design features.

Although originally known as a competition rifle, the Alien has found love in some special forces circles. Be aware of the price, as all those R&D costs add up to make it a very expensive gun.

Additional Equipment and Customization Options

Gray Zone Warfare Spearhead Magnifier

The game introduces optical magnifiers with patch 0.4.0, which allow you to get the close range functionality of red dot and holographic sights while giving you reasonable range accuracy at the expense of virtual reality environments. Like other objects seen in the game, amplifiers can break due to damage.

For shooters and scouts alike, the game also adds binoculars, including a nice pair with a rangefinder, so you’ll no longer have to check the map for scope.

Special weapon customizations, such as rattlecan paint jobs or carvings, can be obtained from bosses, but if you bring a weapon home from merchants, you’ll be able to purchase it without breeding it.

Gray Zone Warfare patch 0.4.0 ‘Spearhead’ is coming this Spring. Gray Zone Warfare is currently available in early access only through Steam.
