Capcom Director Says Leon Can Be A Representative Even At 70 Years Old

If you’ve finished Resident Evil Requiem and are already craving more of Leon S. Kennedy’s signature (and his ability to maintain his leading man look despite the odds), Capcom has good news for you.

In a recent interview (thanks, Eurogamer), the director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that the development team is not looking to revive the main characters just because of the chronology, indicating that there are no immediate plans to replace the old characters, no matter how much time passes between the series.

Age is just a number of disadvantages of living

Nakanishi highlights that Leon is still an important pillar of the franchise, as he approaches 50 in the current timeline. And apparently, that won’t change even when he reaches 70! This means we can expect an older, tougher version of Leon fighting bioterrorism somewhere – maybe while we’re making time for a quick round of bingo in the Ganado area.

“I mean, I think Leon is really adorable in his current state,” Nakanishi explained. “And who knows, we can bring him back when he’s 70, and I’m sure he’ll still be a great character.”

By using the word “attractive,” it seems that Capcom knows exactly what fans want: a hot version of Leon that retains his famous body and good looks. After all, if the T-Virus isn’t aging well, Leon is definitely aging.

Nakanishi continues and highlights that Leon remains an important pillar of the franchise, as he approaches 50 in the current timeline. And apparently, that won’t change even when he reaches 70!

On the other hand, Nakanishi also celebrated the welcome of the new face of the series, Grace Ashcroft. Introduced in Resident Evil Requiem, he quickly won over players with his high-risk survival horror style, which was the original goal of the dev team.

“Compared to some of our more extreme characters who have been through a lot in Resident Evil, this one is [Grace’s] “It’s the first time I’ve heard anything like this,” the director commented. Because you are someone you are in love with, you need him.”

Ultimately, whether we’re rooting for a nervous newcomer or a popular veteran, the future of the franchise seems to be in very capable hands. Resident Evil Requiem is currently available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
