Dead By Daylight 10th Anniversary Event Proves Classic Horror Is Here To Stay

The 10th anniversary of Dead by Daylight has come and gone, and those of us who were lucky enough to be there were blessed with a boatload of exciting new information about the future of this beloved game.
The Dualshockers team was invited by Interactive Behavior a tour of the Montreal studio, a chance to talk to the lead devs, and, of course, a chance to enjoy the 10th anniversary event. I couldn’t say no to that, could I?
10 Most Addictive Horror Games
There are games you just can’t put down, and this one just happens to knock you out.
What followed was an action-packed weekend, full of surprises and interesting conversations. While Dead by Daylight has had a stellar first 10 years, it seems the best is yet to come! Let me share a bit of what I’ve learned and a glimpse of DbD’s bright and exciting future!
Studio Tour
On Saturday the 13th, I went to Behavior Interactive Studio in Montreal. This is where I got to sneak in all the goodies that were coming to the party the next day.
After the big announcements, we were shown around the offices, getting a glimpse of Behavior’s full timeline of game production and beautiful pieces of art showing every single update in DbD history.
Imagine my surprise when I returned to the meeting place and saw the Hunter and the Nurse, two brilliant renderings of the game’s character models, pointing their bloody weapons at us! In the photos, of course, we were not in immediate danger!

Interview: Dead by Daylight Devs Talk Horror, Community and Plans for the Next 10 Years
Dead by Daylight is about to get a hell of a lot scarier!
Later in the day, I spoke with Dave Richard and Mathieu Côté, with a lot of burning questions in mind, to explore the creative process in the minds of its leading developers. I left the interview with a smile, knowing that the future of The Dead by Daylight is in safe hands. If you want to read the full interview, see the link above!
Memorial Day Ceremony
The light turned to black as the rest of the day was known, and I went to sleep knowing full well that everyone attending this event was going to have a blast! But what exactly was waiting for these waiting fans?
However, when I wandered inside, the fog, fittingly enough, enveloped me, and I looked at the huge event space that had been set up. Models soaked in the blood of the killers and hooks filled the hall, the claws of the League, exploding on the floor, stalls, greeting and claw machines all waiting for the excited fans.
You can head to the Indie game site to get a glimpse of upcoming horror titles, or sit back and play board games to get some steam. The most amazing thing I saw, however, was the interactive panoramic screen, which showed a selection of Dead by Daylight in full. serial killers all trapped behind glass.
A terrible red light shone down from above, and if you are confident enough to step into it, you will see a peculiar animation play out, or the murderer even fling himself forward, trying to get out of his imprisonment. It was ridiculously cool, and I spent way too long watching all the animations play out!
Of course, I had to leave at the end, when I quickly realized that this was the first room of many. Add to this a fully stocked playroom where you can explore the new Assassin, Jason, an art gallery with lots of concept art, a large outdoor concert stage and even a special. escape room experience. It certainly kept me and thousands of followers busy throughout the day.
As we all await the live stream, I was able to watch some of the panels hosted by some of the DbD devs, covering everything from aesthetics and character design to interesting dialogue sound design and things that add fear and suspense to a game like DbD. However, eventually, darkness began to set in, and the Livestream began in earnest.

The Future of the Dead by Daylight
If all that wasn’t enough already, we’ve got some great news about updates that will change the entire playing field. The team has announced that they want to be a little more open with these new announcements, deciding to show us features that are still early in development. Transparency for players was an important part of future plans.
The biggest of these was a major image update it will arrive in late 2027. This will not only improve the fidelity of the graphics by reworking character models and maps, but will also bring it more in line with modern releases. This is very important for a new player’s riding experience.
The audio gets a major rework, too, improving realism and immersion while adding new voice lines for older characters who don’t have powers. On top of this is the introduction of a dynamic weather system that allows variations in rain, wind, snow, and other conditions to affect trials.

In terms of game modes, we will see an official 1v1 mode, as well as a zombie mode in early development. And if all that made you itch to create your own content, the Devs also work on all the editing tools, so players can create their own version of DbD, not bound by the rules and regulations of the original.
Phew! That was a lot, wasn’t it? The future of Dead by Daylight looks pretty amazing, so honestly, there’s no better time to jump in than now! Draw the curtains and dim the lights, because the killers are here, and you’re scared!
