Deltarune Chapter 5: Solution to the Mushroom Riddle

Deltarune Chapter 5 has finally been released, and it wouldn’t be a proper chapter without the exploration puzzles. After enjoying the festival for a while with Noelle, you’ll end up back in the Dark World chasing a new opponent. The first part of the Dark World after the festival is light on combat, and instead, you’ll be solving puzzles and trying to find your way through the garden looking for Asgore and Flowery.

The first block puzzle is easy enough, as you just have to push the block onto the pressure plate. However, the second block puzzlealso called the mushroom puzzle, it frustrates me, and I actually hate how many times I have to do it before I get it right.

Find One Mushroom

The creature guarding the path blocked by spikes tells you that it can give you the solution to the puzzle if you give it the mushroom when you interact with it. This is easy enough. If you head souththere is a small area with lots of mushrooms. Choose what you like and connect with it. This prompts him to ask if you want to bite, and you confirm that you do, placing a small mushroom on top of your head.

Take the mushroom back from the animal. He accepts it, but then says he needs to give it to her two mushrooms if you want to solve the puzzle.

Get Two Mushrooms

This is where the puzzle gets confusing. When you go back to interact with the mushrooms, you can now grab two, four, or six mushrooms. It doesn’t matter which one you choose, since you need at least two. Of course, they pile on top of your head in a mushroom tower, which means that all but one mushroom will be removed from your head when you go under the stick.

However, this is the important part. When the mushrooms fall, a bunch of nearby creatures turn into foxes and shake the mushrooms before they return to where they were. One of those foxes turns into a block that you need to move from one piece to another with a pressure plate.

You can repeat this part as many times as you need to find out which fox is the block. Then, catch that fox when the mushroom is eaten. Now, you can go to the patch where you couldn’t slide the block, allowing you to put it down. When it’s down, it turns into a block. From here, it’s easy enough to push the block onto the pressure plate, knock out the spikes and clear your path.

Although this section of the chapter feels calm, you want to keep an eye out for hidden items and secrets, especially since you can find recovery items here that you may end up needing later when you face the chapter bosses. For now, it’s time to continue on the main path and try to find out what Flory wants and why Kris’s father is involved in this new mess in the Dark Land of Deltarune.
