GAME-UK Exclusive Only for PlayStation Slipcases

GAME-UK Exclusive Only for PlayStation Slipcases.

Did you know that PlayStation once released a special range of cardboard slipcases for some of them Only on PlayStation topics?

If not, don’t worry—you’re not alone. This set of ten alternative covers was only available in selected GAME stores in the United Kingdom for a very limited time. Yes, you read that correctly: UK only. They were never officially released elsewhere, which seems like a very odd decision in retrospect.

To be honest, I probably wouldn’t care as much if they looked cheap or poorly made. Thankfully, that’s not the case at all. These slipcases are absolutely stunning, both in design and overall quality. The artwork is beautifully minimalist, the print quality is excellent, and it stands out as some of the best PlayStation advertising material I’ve come across.

Front, Arty, Minimalistic…

Just look at those beautiful covers. The colors are vibrant, the artwork is clean and stylish, and while this minimalist approach may not appeal to everyone, I absolutely love it.

What makes them even cooler is that these aren’t replacement covers. Instead, they’re slipcases designed to slide over the original PlayStation 4 game cases, allowing you to keep standard releases intact while giving your collection a completely different look on the shelf.

As a collector, I couldn’t resist. In fact, I ended up buying all ten games again just to have a complete slipcase set. Yes, that means I now own two copies of every single game in the collection. Absolutely unnecessary? Maybe. Is it worth it? Definitely.

The Background of Slipcases…

Talk about going all in on a minimalist design. To be honest, this is my only complaint about the whole set.

While the front covers look really nice, I really wish Sony offered the back covers in the same way. Instead of creating some stylish versions of the original background, they opted for a very minimal design that removes almost all useful information.

As a result, whenever I want to look at game details, screenshots, or a feature list, I have to remove the case from the slipcover and look at the actual packaging underneath. It’s a minor annoyance, but one that quickly becomes apparent when flipping through the collection.

What sets this apart is that the fronts and spines feel incredibly premium. The print quality, colors, and overall presentation are excellent, however the background feels like an afterthought. It creates a strange contrast where one side screams “collector’s item” while the other feels incredibly cheap and unfinished.

Really Beautiful…

Here you can see the spine artwork, and it’s really interesting to read the different design choices that Sony made throughout the collection. Some logos use bold letters, others use small letters, while a few include additional art and graphic flourishes as part of the logo itself.

Despite these differences, the overall presentation remains remarkably consistent. Everything is perfectly aligned, the color palette is cohesive, and the slipcases sit well together on the shelf. The result is a collection that feels both separate and unified at the same time.

It’s one of those rare cases where each item has its own identity, yet the complete set still looks like it belongs together. For collectors, that kind of attention to detail is always appreciated.

Ten Centerpieces…

Ten games, ten fun games. While we now know that a few of them are finally making their way to PC, that doesn’t take away from how cool this collection is. Ironically, Sony could have produced more than 100 of these slipcases and probably sold them. Games like Patapon, Golf for everyone, Blood Rush, Farpoint, LocoRocoagain Gravity Rush are just a few examples of titles that I would happily buy a second copy of just to own more of these beautiful slipcases.

The reason I’m writing about these slipcases now is because I’ve been digging through a mountain of unfinished documents on the site. This article, for example, was started and almost finished in 2022.

And yes, there are probably over a hundred drafts sitting there in various states of completion. For one reason or another—writer’s block, my PSVR-only section, my Amiga-only section, or just plain distraction—they never got finished or published.

All images included in this article are from my own collection, while the video was taken from PlayStation UK.

That’s all for now. Until next time—keep going, guys!
