What Are the Forms of Yokai in Seikyu Mythology?
In Tales of Seikyu, as a fox, he has the innate ability to take the form of various types of Yokai, which refer to spirit creatures commonly found in Japanese history. Although your default form for most of the story is human, and thus you will be doing something good for your adventures together, your true form that you want to rediscover is that of the fox. You’ll need to unlock a few other Yokai forms before you can find them, but once you do, it’s worth the effort.
As detailed below, each of these different Yokai forms comes with its own set of skills that you can use to overcome challenges in places like the Fox Ruins, or reach previously inaccessible areas that you couldn’t reach as a pedestrian. This means unlocking them all is essential to your journey, and luckily, you’ll do so as part of the main story.
How to Unlock and Upgrade All Yokai Forms in Tales of Seikyu
There is a price 6 different Yokai forms your character can unlock and use in Tales of Seikyu. You’ll unlock each of them over the course of the story, mostly by traversing and exiting rooms in the Fox Ruins dungeon, and each has its own unique use in and out of combat.
Also, most Yokai forms have opportunities to improve their combat attacks. Select one of your unlocked Yokais from the ‘Forms’ menu to view their details and upgrade tree respectively (on the right side of the screen). To complete the upgrade, you will need a certain amount of money along with it The talismanswhich you can find by extracting rooms from the underground dungeon in the Fox Ruins north of Seikyu town.
Note that while there are no specific abilities to unlock, you can still upgrade your default Human form, which will allow you to equip higher-end weapons.
Human Form
- How to open: This is your default form at the start of the game and the main story, so there are no requirements to unlock it.
- How to use: N/A; Your human form uses traditional weapons and gear to fight for life.
- Maximum Development Level: There are no specific upgrades you can unlock in your human form. Only your default character level applies here.
Pig Form
- How to open: Once you open your first Shrine across the bridge from Seikyu town as part of the main story, your character will transform into a pig as part of a cutscene sequence. This will automatically unlock this Yokai form for you to use going forward.
- How to use: Boar Form can be used for fighting and sowing patches of land on your farm to plant crops.
- Maximum Development Level: 8
Slime form
- How to open: Defeat Anji, the Tanuki boss, inside the Fox Ruins dungeon. You will receive a scroll of evolution as a reward after that.
- How to use: This form can be used to explore underwater areas around the island for loot. It can also be used to irrigate all the crops on your farm at once by taking water from nearby sources such as rivers and lakes. Finally, it can be used in combat to shoot projectile attacks at monsters.
- Maximum Development Level: 8
Tengu form
- How to open: Defeat the second Tanuki boss in the Fox Ruins dungeon named Fujiki. You will receive a conversion scroll to open the form later.
- How to use: This form can be used to slide to high places around the island that you cannot reach on foot. In combat, it can be used defensively to block and/or avoid attacks from monsters.
- Maximum Development Level: 8
Yuki-Onna form
- How to open: Found in the Fox Ruins dungeon after unlocking Boar, Slime, and Tengu. You will receive a conversion scroll to open the form later.
- How to use: This form can be used to access inaccessible areas of the island. It can also be used in combat by using ice-based attacks.
- Maximum Development Level: 8
Form Fox
- How to open: This is the last Yokai form you can unlock in the game (for now), and usually can’t be done until you get all the previous forms (Human, Pig, Slime, Tengu, and Yuki-Onna).
You can get this form very early (unless it is attached)! Enter the first large passage from the cave entrance until you reach a room straight ahead with a waterfall across a gap. Use your Boar form to run and jump across the gap to the edge of the waterfall, open the treasure chest there (it contains a Sun Wheel Ring), then carefully navigate behind the waterfall and down the next hall until you reach a room with another chest up on the high ground to your left. Open it, and this gives you a scroll to open Fox form!
- How to use: This form can be used to control monsters, and upgrading the form will allow you to control them more easily, including higher monsters.
- Maximum Development Level: 8
