I’ll admit, I was skeptical Invincible VS. Not because it looked too bad or anything, but because I feel like we already have too many fighting games in the esports scene. However, my mind changed completely Evo Vegas 2026.

First, I had a chance to play the game, which I haven’t had time to since it came out in April 2026. This includes two upcoming characters, Immortal and Universa. It was incredibly delicious. It felt fluid, fast, bloody, and strangely satisfying.

Then I was able to talk to him Lead Combat Designer “Bau” Bautista again Game director Dave Hall. And they had such a refreshing plan for the esports scene that now I not only believe in the game, but search Invincible VS will be the next big fighting game title.

The major topics in FGC often share a major issue: disconnection from society itself. Although many players don’t expect developers to talk to them openly and freely (although devs would be better), it is very important especially in the fighting game.

But the Invincible VS team approaches the development process in a very different way. The same team also worked on Killer Instinct in 2013, and realized that the community was a big part of the process then.

Bau said: “As we know from fighting, fighting games are a community… There’s a lot involved. Getting feedback, feedback, and working with the players and the community at large. [is so important].

“They are very knowledgeable. It would be foolish not to take advantage of that and use that as much as possible.”

They took the same approach of Invincible VS. Hall told me that the community was very active and there was a continuous feedback loop with the players. If players see a bug, the team will announce a hot patch coming in. By being more involved with the community, the dev team knows exactly what’s going on in the game and how and when to fix things.

This explains why the gameplay is so addicting. It is designed for fighting games with fighting game lovers. The group is made up of passionate fighting game players who listen to fighting game enthusiasts in the community. Their input is important. Their ideas are used.

The result? The best game among all newbies in FGC. There are so many tag team fighting games coming out, but Invincible stands out for its brutality (“We love explosive people,” Hall told me), its fast-paced gameplay, with high action, fast movement, and an efficient tag team system. The open-ended combo system is also a game changer.

When I played this game, I felt like I could get hold of it quickly. The combos were easy to pull off and insanely satisfying. No input tone is required. The matches felt fast and tactical, like you were constantly making important choices and doing really fun s***.

You have to pay attention. It’s fascinating.

While the barrier to entry is very low, there are many layers to be revealed as you grind. There is a lot of depth here. And that’s because of the team’s willingness to really pay attention to the background of the players.

“You can literally press a button and make a bad combination*** if you do it enough times. Have fun. Press any button you want. It will work,” Hall said. “As you get better, you can figure out how to get the meter down and all that fun stuff. When do I tag? When do I throw these extra playthings in there? It starts to put itself into it.

“Even with the best players [at the Evo tourney]you will see people doing things we didn’t even know they would do.”

“It’s a brand new fighting game franchise,” Bau said. “We don’t see anything in the past. We try to make decisions and decisions that work for us and our game. We try to stay honest in everything.”

Invincible VS Wants to Bring Local People Back Forward

This focus on community extends to the esports programs of Invincible VS. Instead of hoping for a big stage full of sponsors and income (won’t say any words), the team wants to focus on grassroots competitions.

Soon, they will start supporting local tours. They believe that it is from these local people that society can truly grow. It’s how the dev team itself was raised and they want to bring that magic back to FGC.

“The relationship of being close to someone, that is very important in the sport of fighting,” Hall said. “Playing online is important, but being together, having fun, doing fun things… That’s fun.”

Bau added that local people come first. This is where you build connections. Playing online, you can feel free. Not very satisfying. There are many players, sure, but it’s not the same. He commented: “You don’t get trash talking after the game. The locals are where that came from.”

Before the pandemic, when the dev team was working on Invincible VS, they would get together and play all kinds of fighting games. Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, tons of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Hell yeah. There will be six to eight seats, which rotate.

“It was fun talking. We’ll call you when we talk,” Hall joked.

That trash talk is a really important part of the fighting game scene. That’s salt. That’s the truth. It’s good that FGC is growing. We need more players. But we also need local ones. Those are the real moments. That feeling of camaraderie with a niche group that others don’t get. The Invincible VS team gets it.

When asked about the upcoming DLC, the dev team didn’t really seem to know what was going on. When were they going out? How many? Someone came in and told me: Season 2 is coming in October 2026 with two characters, and Season 3 will add two more in December 2026.

That’s really good. But it’s clear that the dev team is focused elsewhere. They care more about the game itself, the experience it brings to the players, the opportunities to become locals.

The upcoming new characters will push the boundaries and introduce new mechanics. They can’t do that when they have a solid foundation. Universa can draw an enemy growth meter, and Immortal can come back from the dead. These are things that will require a lot of community feedback, and the devs will be keeping an eye out for play in the wild.

New characters are cool and all. But I will be waiting to hear more about those tourneys.
