Long-awaited match, rivals leave fans sad, Smash player helps: FGC’s hopeful week

FGC is always full of excitement, chaos, drama, and emotions. Unlike other scenes, there are still low sounds even in the biggest events. There’s grit and passion like you’ve never seen before. Although that often leads to a lot of toxicity and drama, this past week has been full of hope.
I wanted to highlight some events of the past week that showed just how special the fighting game community is. Professional players support and respect each other, unlike anything you will see in other sports. Here are some of the best, most emotional, and hilarious moments from FGC as of late.
Oh, and one negative to keep the salt flowing.
- The FGC is determined to protect its sporting landscape, even if it means staying broke
- Smash community is furious after pro says Melee is competitive, Ultimate is not normal
Wholesomebox Strikes Again
I Super Smash Bros. The sports field is fueled by love, something I have expressed many times. This creates dramatic rivalries, salty public drama, and fierce rivalries on the line. However, it means that the best players in the world often struggle.
Recently, a former top player Leonardo “McLeo” Lopez he announced to his fans that he will not be able to compete Kagaribi #15the biggest Ultimate in Japan. Even with his supporters donating to the media, McLeo dropped $1,200 due to massive medical bills last month. This is sad to hear: one of the top players in North America can’t compete because their sponsors won’t fly them out and they don’t make enough money playing Smash to even come to the event.
It shouldn’t be like this. These players dedicate their entire lives to Smash.
The response gave the Smash community a lot of hope. It was easy. Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma he wrote: “DMing you.”
Smash players already know what’s going on. Hungrybox has been fighting, with its own money, to keep Smash alive and growing. He funds his big fellows in Orlando, hosts a weekly online tournament series, and flies players to various events. Will McLeo follow?
While it’s one of those “shouldn’t happen” situations, Hungrybox’s immediate response has shown that the community has their backs. That love, passion, and grit is something you don’t see in many other esports titles.
Street Fighter 6 Players Don’t Want Tifa as a DLC Fighter
I think that Street Fighter 6 the scene is old. I say that because the rumor of a character crossover coming as DLC has been getting more attention, rather than any game effects or drama with Capcom. Instead, we are talking about Tifa.
Yes, a Final Fantasy character might be coming to Street Fighter 6 in Season 4. A leak from a now-deleted Reddit thread showed four DLC fighters for Season 4: Vega, Gouken, Final Fight’s Mike Haggar, and Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa Lockhart.
This is the same account, RnK_Clan, that successfully leaked all of Season 2. So take it with a grain of salt, but I can be pretty sure. Tifa has been confirmed by multiple sources, but not by Capcom.
Tifa will be the first non-fighting game in Street Fighter. This may be canon in-game, thanks to Season 3’s Ingrid, an intelligent character who can unlock other dimensions.
The response was all over the place. Many gamers have started begging Capcom to stop with crossovers. It starts to make the game feel cheap and cheesy, something other fighting games have gone into as they add more guest characters.
“Why is everything a crossover?” asked another fan.
FGC is not just pranks. We don’t like skins. We don’t like generic crossovers. We are the gatekeepers. We want our games to stay focused on what’s important. Ignores DLC.
SonicFox and Go1 Put on a Show at Evo Japan
I Dragon Ball FighterZ Masters Showdown a sideshow at Evo Japan drew old rivals Dominique “SonicFox” McLeanagainGoichi “Go1” Kishida against each other. These are two of the biggest names in the FGC scene who have clashed several times in previous Evo stages while competing in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
However, SonicFox and Go1 have been exploring other games for the past few years, playing Dragon Ball slowly. SonicFox scores a 2XKO while Go1 has become the best Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves player in the world.
When the game starts, SonicFox and Go1 play a reorganized battle scene, pulling out synchronized move after move. Later, Sonic said: “We wanted to leave the fans with one last moment between us.
The two may not face each other in Dragon Ball FighterZ again.
The Dragon Ball FighterZ community was left in tears. Many expressed how that time affected them. Seeing these two face each other for the last time in a special way was an unforgettable moment in FGC history. One of those great stories that shows that FGC may be small, but it’s bursting with passion more than any other scene.
Get the Hype, It’s Finally Happening: MenaRD vs. Daigo

I’ve been giving Evo a lot of s*** for its expansion stuff after the takeover of Saudi Arabia. And so is the FGC as a whole. In the past, Arslan Ash even feared that this continued expansion would destroy the reputation of the Las Vegas event, which is a valid concern. Especially for someone who has won it multiple times.
Still, I have to give credit where credit is due. The next Legends LIVE game is on Daigo Umehara again Saul Leonardo “MenaRD” Mena II it belongs to the history books.
After winning multiple Capcom Cup tournaments, MenaRD is considered one of the best Street Fighter players in the world. But MenaRD has always felt that this title is not guaranteed without an exhibition match against the veteran Daigo.
“It would be the biggest honor in my career if I could get a chance to fight you in the first-to-10,” MenaRD wrote to X on legend last year. “Since I was young, I have dedicated myself to preparation, and I wonder how far we can take it if we decide to focus on one set between us for months.
Daigo actually answered, saying that he wanted to make it happen. Since then, FGC has been wondering if the two will ever get their chance. MenaRD represents new-gen talent at its best, a powerful fighter who uses his victories to help his community. Daigo is an old school player who has been competing for over twenty years, often considered the goat even if he is not a current top player.
Now, the game will take place on April 29. Many fans entered the lottery to buy tickets for the game, which is held in Kawasaki, and some say they will pay a lot of money to watch the game go down.
