New Witcher 3 DLC Finally Revealed (But It Could Be a Prequel)

After months of leaks and rumors, CD Projekt Red has finally announced the new legendary DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, although the title suggests that it could be a prequel of sorts, acting as a bridge to The Witcher 4.

There have been many rumors over the past year that CD Projekt Red is working on new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, despite the fact that it is over a decade old. It’s not like there’s any kind of time limit on the content, and fans will be lining up for more Geralt visits, considering The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most acclaimed video games of all time.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt fans are already in hype mode, considering that there is a live stream planned for the 10th anniversary of the Blood and Wine DLC, which many people thought would be the stage where the new expansion would be announced. It turns out, CD Projekt Red is choosing the Nintendo route, and just teased a new DLC announcement on Twitter/X.

According to CD Projekt Red, the next expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is called Songs of the Past, and it launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in the summer of 2027. Notably, there is no announcement regarding older consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, or anything related to the Switch 2.

Songs of the Past is co-developed by Fools Theory, the company behind the upcoming remake of the first iteration of The Witcher. Perhaps the remake of The Witcher will be based more on the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt engine, which will save a lot of time and development costs, especially since Geralt’s fighting style hasn’t changed much throughout the series.

According to CD Projekt Red, the next expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is called Songs of the Past and is launching for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in the summer of 2027.

There’s no word on the content of Songs of the Past, although Geralt is shown being spoken to by a crazy tree creature. The name suggests that it may be some kind of precursor, something supernatural that forces Geralt to meet the demands and times of his past.

The Witcher 4 and The Witcher remakes are still a long way off, so it makes sense that CD Projekt Red wanted to fill the gap with something simpler. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an amazing game with a dedicated fanbase, almost there on day one to check it out, especially considering the bad taste left by the TV show’s epic final season.

Leaks about the new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC have stated that it will act as a bridge to The Witcher 4, so Ciri will have an important role to play. At the very least, the game can shed some light on what Geralt is doing during The Witcher 4, and what great quest Ciri is embarking on. But even if Songs of the Past is just Geralt beating monsters for hours, fans will be content with the chance to lace up his boots again.
