PlayStation Adds One of the Best Horror Games of the Decade to the Essential List

We all know that PlayStation Plus subscribers tune in every single month to see if the upcoming “Games of the Month” selection, which is a monthly batch of titles you get to search and save (as long as your subscription is still active), will deliver real quality or complement the digital catalog.

In August 2026, Sony offers three well-rounded titles in completely different genres. But while the big-budget parkour action and puzzle-solving may grab the headlines, one entry stands head and shoulders above all for fans of space games.

According to a new update on the official PlayStation Blog, starting Tuesday, August 4, all PlayStation Plus members across the Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers can claim three different titles: Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition (PS5 and PS4), a cooperative adventure Venture capital (PS5), and a survival horror title The signal (PS4).

While jumping into a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested city in Ding Light or hanging out with friends in The Big Walk certainly sound like great ways to spend your gaming sessions, Signalis is arguably the crown jewel on this month’s list.

For those unfamiliar with this indie sensation, calling this baby a “horror game” sounds like an understatement. Stripped of critical acclaim, it stands comfortably as one of the best psychological survival horrors of the decade. Drawing heavy inspiration from the early days of Silent Hill and the classic PS1 era Resident Evil, the game puts you in Elster, a replicant technician searching for his missing partner in a dystopian, retrotech world.

So, if you’re into retro survival horror or romance games that aren’t afraid to get really weird and fun, adding this to your PS Plus library at no extra cost is a big win!

But hey, if psychological horror isn’t your vibe, August still has a lot of variety to offer. Ding Light 2 brings a ton of parkour and brutal melee combat to the table, allowing you to traverse a massive urban sandbox while avoiding infected hordes, either alone or with up to four players in co-op mode. And on the other end of the spectrum is Big Walk, an interactive multiplayer title that focuses on teamwork and solving clever puzzles in a lively open environment.
