Senator Cynthia Lummis Confirmed as Bitcoin 2026 Speaker

US Senator Cynthia Lummis has been officially confirmed as a speaker at Bitcoin 2026. A Republican senator from Wyoming, Lummis currently serves as Chair of the Senate Banking Committee on Digital Assets – a role she was appointed to in January 2025 to lead the Banking Committee’s efforts on digital asset legislation. He has held Bitcoin publicly since 2013 and has spent his time in the Senate focused on establishing a regulatory and legal framework for digital assets in the United States.

His main legislative effort was the BITCOIN Act, officially called the Boosting Innovation, Technology, and Competitiveness through Optimized Investment Nationwide Act, which he introduced in the US Senate as Chairman of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets. The bill authorizes the US Treasury Department to acquire up to one million Bitcoins over a five-year period to be stocked in a strategic reserve, with a mandatory term of 20 years, and includes a proof-of-reserve requirement for quarterly public reporting of total assets. Alongside the BITCOIN Act, Lummis was a co-sponsor of the GENIUS Act of 2025 to regulate stablecoins and introduced a no-tax bill for Bitcoin microtransactions. Recently, he predicted that the crypto market structure bill should come out of the Senate Banking Committee by the end of April 2026, saying that the negotiations have reached the consensus needed to move the legislation forward.

Lummis announced in December 2025 that he would not seek re-election in 2026. His appearance at Bitcoin 2026 comes during his final term in the Senate, and several bills he supported are still working their way through Congress. As recently as February 2026, Lummis pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the digital asset tax, including the potential exemption of deminimis on small items, with Bessent promising that the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy would work with his team on oversight.

As his Senate term draws to a close, Bitcoin 2026 provides a meaningful platform for Lummis to address the public that has watched him carry the Bitcoin policy torch in Washington for years. Few lawmakers have shown up to the conference year after year with effective legislation in place – and with the BITCOIN Act, CLARITY Act, and stablecoin legislation all moving at once, his appearance in Las Vegas this April promises to be one of the most compelling policy discussions of the event.
