If you’ve spent hours in Ghost of Yotei Legends just killing your teammates, especially in the survival game mode, World War Z offers many of the same fun features. However, it presents itself in a completely different context. Instead of a samurai tale, you face an army of chaotic zombies.

It’s interdependent co-op, so having a good team will make you feel unstoppable, especially if your teammates hold certain angles on their own.And like choosing between Mercenary or Shinobi, your role in World War Z shapes the entire team’s strategy.

Oh, and if you appreciate high levels of gameplay as well, you’ll be happy to know that you can create a satisfying loop for yourself here, from unlocking new perks and weapons to testing your team’s strength to increasing difficulty levels for better rewards.

Destiny 2

Don’t Get Too Drunk on Grinding

As someone who religiously played the first game and retired from the second shortly after the Final Shape DLC, Destiny 2 feels like a toxic ex you can’t seem to escape. Is that a bad thing? Well, it’s hard to say when I consider the precious memories and moments it has given me throughout my life.

However, I can’t argue with how Bungie consistently creates a satisfying gameplay loop that features one of the best gunplay systems in the modern FPS genre. Their live service ethics are certainly questionable, but needless to say, it’s still a pirate shooter that you’ll have a good time with if you have a friend or two to run the entire expansion campaign or (maybe) even its venerable end-game content.

With three different classes, all with a variety of builds that change from time to time with balance patches or seasonal updates. But to be safe, choose the Titan. Trust me, they are the most goateed students in the game as long as you don’t listen to the accusations that you eat crayons. And with the recent expansion of Renegades, any Star Wars fan will undoubtedly have a treat in the current state of the game.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

For the King

Even though they didn’t look too different from the outside, Space Marine 2 scratches the same itch that you would get from playing Yotei Legends on or off. Instead of katana duels, he cuts through hordes of Tyranids with chains and bolts.

It’s a mess, but when it works, it feels as satisfying as a Survival Mode run in Yotei Legend, like covering teammates when they’re overwhelmed or holding a fort while your teammates regroup.

And like the titles mentioned above and more later, SM2 is also very dependent on the aspect of choosing a role as you have several classes to choose from: Such as Assault and Tactical, which focus on damage, while rare ones like Bulwark focus on providing support, especially with the Chapter Banner perk.

The Endless Cycle of Death, Literally

In Yotei Legends, one can easily make out that general survival was not always guaranteed during the endgame content, especially the Incursions; you had to rely on your team even if you held your own as much as possible.

Thankfully, Remnant 2 taps into that tension during co-op. Enemies hit harder, bosses hit harder, and suddenly, positioning, recovery, and communication are more important than your build or raw skill. You’ll have those moments when one member of the team is sitting down, the other is rolling over a pile of junk fodder, and you’re scrambling to keep up.

Also, after all the DLCs released since launch, you have access to 14 different classes here in the form of the Archetype system. And with the game’s signature procedurally generated world design and Souls-like challenge curve, you can soak up the majority of time here with your friends or on your own.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Torch Those Xenomorphs

At their core, both Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Yotei’s Legends Mode are built around a strong, three-to-four-player co-op environment. You’re not just making a fool of yourself by being sent here because you rely on each other to survive them.

In Fireteam Elite, you’re always closing angles, calling out threats, and sticking close because one mistake could spell chaos. He has a constant Xenomorph claw coming out of the vents and walls. The tension builds in the same way: slow at first, then suddenly powerful because you’re setting up turrets, blocking corridors, and desperately trying not to break the line.

I know Yotei: Legends is slower paced than you’d expect here, but given the class interactions and the fast tactile feel of the gameplay, this isn’t a bad idea at all. Bonus points if you’re a fan of the alien movie franchise in general.

Fun Cooperative Action

One of the biggest reasons why Nioh 2 clicked with players jumping off the horse from Yotei Legends is how deliberate and skill-based the combat feels. It’s not just about mashing buttons as you’ll need to actively read enemies, manage Ki, and time your attacks carefully.

Although I feel that this game should be played in single player for the first time as a new player, the co-op is a great way to find cooperation for those who are interested. One player may pressure the boss while the other plays it safe and refreshes or plays. It sounds less chaotic and more like a choreographed dance when clicked.

In addition, both games draw on Japanese history and mythology, but their tones are very different. The other is an open-ended, playable, supernatural fantasy for up to 4 players. And on the other hand, Nioh 2 is harder and more depressing, leaning more on Yokai horror.

Monster Hunter World

I wouldn’t talk about the series as a veteran or anything, but playing Monster Hunter World for the first time in 2018 on my PS4 made me completely immersed in what it had to offer. An easy to pick up but steep learning curve for each weapon type available, a variety of monsters to hunt, and a game focus aimed at good ‘ol jolly interaction.

It was a recipe for success from Capcom, especially for my friends and I, who loved multiplayer action games with a heavy emphasis on loot grinding and gameplay that required everyone to share the load.

MH World scales the number of players correctly per player, making every battle a real battle unless you’re rocking an end-game arsenal on your hunters. And the cherry on top is the Iceborne expansion, which adds tons of new content alongside Master Level Hunter Rank difficulty.

Helldivers 2

For freedom… For freedom!

Grab your friends, prepare your tactics, and get ready to consume a heavy dose of Liber-Tea in Helldivers 2. Although it’s in a completely different league of football than Yotei Legends, this is a game with a lot of power to deliver in both progression and gameplay.

While it doesn’t feature any rewards for building or looting, Helldivers 2 makes up for that incentive with its various Warbond passes that give you unique weapon sets, weapons, and other tactical equipment. Each player can customize their loadout before entering the battlefield with machines, vehicles, and tanks. You have an almost limitless range of possibilities here.

I can easily promise that you will have a good time with your friends as long as you level up clearly while preparing yourself with the best Stratagems to sufficiently clear those damned Terminids, Autoamatons and Illuminate. Just try not to be too much of a troll and kamikaze yourself or your colleagues with Hellbomb and Eagle 500Kg.
