Trapeze Rec Club to close, quick notice leaves members scrambling for answers

The wellness club was founded by GJ Wee, son of UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong
Home health club Trapeze Rec. Club (TRC)opened by GJ Wee, son of UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong, will close on March 22.
In a post on its Instagram page yesterday (Mar 3), the business said “increasing costs” made continuing at its current location unsustainable. This decision was reportedly made last week.
The TRC said its team is contacting individual members, processing refunds, and supporting its coaches, although the article did not specify what will happen to the coaching staff and encouraged the public to contact them directly.
The club added that it is also “closing the chapter well” with suppliers, retailers and partners.
Classes and private training will continue until the closing date.

As of March 4, the TRC website remains open for bookings until March 18, while classes are still scheduled until March 22.
Launched in 2021, TRC is a four-storey 8,000 square meter fitness club located in a pre-war shopping mall in Tanjong Pagar. Offers group classes covering fitness, wellness, and more, alongside personal training.
The group operates under the lifestyle company Trapeze Group, which was also founded by GJ Wee. Other brands under the group include A place to hidemassage concept and bathroom style found in New Bahru, which seems to work as usual.
“Surprise Close”
A day before TRC’s official announcement on Instagram on March 2, a netizen who goes by @swiftologist was already seeking answers about the group’s “imminent (and surprising)” closure from TRC and its founder.
He called the closure sudden and “disturbing,” while praising TRC coaches who “did everything they could to keep Trapeze going, despite the lack of concern for the health of members and staff from senior management.”

In response to the March 3 official announcement, the network operator added that members were “given less than a month’s notice,” after seeking an explanation on March 2 and “finally” receiving an official address on March 3.
He also questioned whether TRC’s closing was “really inevitable due to cost overruns,” and that “the public needs a straight explanation from the founder himself—not just a message about a product account.”
@swiftologist also continued to question the founder’s priorities “when other projects seem to continue while this space (the one with a real, invested community) is deemed ‘unsustainable’.”
Other members echoed similar concerns, describing the closure as being given on “very short notice.” One netizen noted that members were notified of the possible move “a month ago,” but were now being told that operations would be closed altogether, which they said “sounds like a slogan, mishandled and talked about.”
That being said, other members also expressed their support during this discussion.
When Vulcan Post to @swiftologist and TRC for further comment, both said they had nothing to add.
