“We don’t consider what the players want.”
In a new developer update blog, Pearl Abyss recently revealed the roadmap for the next few months, highlighting a plan to strengthen the storyline, and make Kliff’s often underused sidekicks, Damiane and Oongka, feel like a bigger part of the experience.
Pearl Abyss Reveals Crimson Desert DLC and Story Update
Crimson Desert has achieved incredible success, peaking at over 270,000 players on Steam, and solidified fans who can’t help but discover the game’s stunning visuals, and endless exploration of a world teeming with life—but there’s always room for improvement.
While Crimson Desert is undoubtedly one of the best new open-world games on the market, a common criticism you’ve received is that the story isn’t as strong as it should be, but that could change a lot in the coming months.
In DualShockers’ review of Crimson Desert, Christian Bognar explains, “The weakest part of Crimson Desert is the story, unfortunately. It’s definitely workable, but it would have been nice to have a story that kept me engaged in the 100 hours I’ve spent playing. Instead, I found myself bored during dialogue, and conflicted between different dialogues, and not interested in seeing the outcome of the dialogue. plot.”
While it’s not a big enough problem to ruin the game’s success, it’s a sentiment shared by many. Fortunately, Pearl Abyss has been listening and will be releasing news updates in the coming months. “We’ve been carefully reviewing the story-related feedback you’ve shared with us. In order to continue to strengthen the narrative of Kliff’s journey and make it more engaging, we’re working on refining and improving the consistency of key scenes. We hope this development will offer something new even to those who have experienced Pywel before.”
While Crimson Desert is undoubtedly one of the best new open-world games on the market, a common criticism you’ve received is that the story isn’t as strong as it should be, but that could change a lot in the coming months.
As Crimson Desert players explore the Pywel continent, freeing regions and gathering Greymanes, more playable characters are added to your roster, such as Damiane and Oongka, but unfortunately, they are not integrated into the story as much as some players would like.
The New Update Also Improves Some Playable Characters
Pearl Abyss revealed that they will be improving Damiane and Oongka’s overall gameplay experience, “Various adjustments will be made so that all three playable characters get their share of the spotlight.”
Blockades are also changing in a few ways as a ‘new stage’ is being developed to make the moments before and after a blockade feel more natural. Players will reportedly have new ways to defend certain castles from attack, and unlocking blocks will bring better rewards.
It’s not all about story and combat, however, as many of the Greymane choose to spend most of their time doing simple things like fishing, catching butterflies, searching for secret caves, or collecting pets, and the latest road shows that non-combat content will also be getting love, especially, trading and farming.
These updates will be released gradually from June to September, and in addition to making the story and main characters a unified package, Pearl Abyss is currently developing the first DLC for Crimson Desert. “We’re also hard at work on the upcoming Crimson Desert DLC, and while we can’t share details yet, we’re preparing it as a useful addition to your journey. We’ll share more details in the future, so stay tuned.”
From mechs and jetpacks, to dragons, dungeons, and magic, Crimson Desert has a little bit of everything, and at the rate they’re adding new content, it’ll be interesting to watch the game evolve over the next year, and it’s good to see Pearl Abyss taking the time to address community concerns before releasing new DLC.
