Epic Games Giveaway This Week Includes Grim WW1 FPS and Adorable Camping

Life is about finding a healthy balance. Sometimes, that works by swinging between extremes, or at least that’s what Epic is trying to say with this week’s offering.
Two of the games featured in its weekly freebies are Isonzo, an incredibly traumatic World War I shooter, and Cozy Grove, a cozy game best described as Animal Crossing with spirits.
The juxtaposition is intense, but it makes perfect sense when you think about it. If your mental health is in shambles after running straight to a machine gun house in a snowy mountain, you’re going to need a healing break in the wild.
Isonzo: An Alpine nightmare
BlackMill Games has made a name for itself with the WW1 game series. Starting with Verdun back in 2015, the franchise grew with Tannenberg (2017) and Isonzo (2022).
As the studio prepares to launch Gallipoli later this year, BlackMill decided to give new players a taste of what it’s cooking up.
8 Best Historically Accurate War Games
When playing becomes learning.
Isonzo boasts a small but extremely loyal player base, with servers full 24/7. The game depicts the brutal battles of the Isonzo Valley between the Italian Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which includes the stunning Alpine and terrifying battlefields.
This is an unforgiving, brutal game, but in a way that feels limited and very rewarding once you get into the zone.
Cozy Grove: Haunted Camping
‘Surprise … it goes!’ The disclaimer at the bottom of the Cozy Grove sign tells you all you need to know about this cool game.
You play as a Spirit Scout, camping in populated areas and helping to appease local ghosts.
The basic gameplay is similar to your average Animal Crossing game, but what sets Cozy Grove apart is how your actions visually change the world around you.
Unlike more binge-worthy titles, Cozy Grove is purpose-built to get you a good hour or two of gameplay every day. After you finish doing daily tasks, you can still waste things by crafting, fishing, and other menial tasks, but you can’t mindlessly play to the end of the game at once.
