The Patch 7.55 update to Final Fantasy 14 also brings a variety of new content for players to dive into, as the Dawntrail expansion begins to drop and the buzz around Evercold continues to (strangely) heat up. Along with updates to Phantom Weapons, the Solution 9 leg of Hildibrand’s ongoing questline, and the end of the Allied Society questline, Occult Crescent finally got its next big region for players to explore.
If you’re eager to give back to the Occult Crescent, here’s how to unlock the North Horn region, including all the quests involved, as well as some of the valuable rewards you can earn during your adventures in the region.
How to Open the Occult Crescent: North Horn
The second major region of Occult Crescent Field Operations content, North Horn, has been added as part of the game’s Patch 7.55 update. Before anything else, note that you will need to unlock the South Horn region first, and complete its storyline by using ‘Mysteries Abide‘looking for blue.
Once that’s there, make your way to Tuliyollal and talk to Expedition Messenger of (X:17.2, Y:11.8) to find Quest for ‘Occult Reunion’. You must have a Level 100 combat class (Warrior or Magician) equipped to do so. Follow the quest objectives to the Phantom Village, and talk to the blue-robed Roegadyn named Ketenramm near the well at (X:6.1, Y:6.5).
Next, talk to Jeffroy, the Travel Coordinator up the stairs to the north at (X:4.5, Y:6.5) to complete the quest and officially open the North Horn as an accessible location.
How to Travel to the Occult Crescent: North Horn
To go to the North Horn area of the Occult Crescent, simply talk to Jeffroy, the Expedition Coordinator by (X:4.5, Y:6.5) in Phantom Village, and a list of available options will appear. Select the ‘North Horn’ option near the top, and you’ll be queued for an example region.
Once you arrive, you can familiarize yourself with the camp and the NPCs there who can help you with various things. You will find Ketenramm, Archive, and Iris to continue the North Horn story.
Some important NPCs to watch out for here include Expedition Supplier (X:39.0, Y:38.6) who offers basic items for sale and can repair your gear, and the Expedition Trader near the right, who can trade for extra Soul Shards you have on hand.
Meanwhile, the Expedition Antiquarian near right (X:39.5, Y:38.7) sells various rewards in exchange for Silver and Gold Obol tokens. You can pick up ilvl 780 gear sets with buffs that are naturally specific to the Occult Crescent, as well as other rewards like glamor sets, minions, furniture, Soul Shards to unlock more Phantom missions, Orchestion Rolls, and more.
Occult Crescent: Rewards of the Northern Horn
The Expedition Antiquarian at Base Camp in the North Horn is your main prize exchange center. As you earn Gold and Silver Obol tokens from your regional adventures, you can exchange them for a variety of valuable rewards, some of which you can keep or convert and sell on the Market Board for hot gil.
While some rewards are more complex in nature (eg — Materia), there are others you’ll want to be aware of.
