The Dota 2 Meepo hotfix aims to exploit the replayability of the game-breaking feature

On July 28, 2026, Valve released ia Dota 2 The hotfix addresses an important Meepo exploit that allowed players to multiply items and generate an unlimited amount of gold during matches.
After the exploit was identified, Meepo was temporarily removed from the Dota 2 hero pool, preventing players from selecting a hero manually or accepting him through a random pick. A hotfix was applied shortly thereafter, with an update confirming that the exploit had been fixed.
What was the latest Dota 2 Meepo exploit?
According to player reports on Reddit, the Meepo exploit involved manipulating how the hero interacts with certain items, the courier, the stash, and Dota 2’s automatic item gathering system.
Rather than legally purchasing every base component, players can create duplicate copies of the components. These can then be traded repeatedly for quick gold production, reportedly allowing Meepo to assemble a full list of six slots within the first few minutes of the game.
In a video shared by Reddit user u/Bombad1ll, the player fills all but one inventory slot with Iron Branches. He then buys Sange and locks the item so it doesn’t connect automatically. Next, he sells the Iron Branch, buys Yasha separately, transfers it to his courier, and moves the courier away from the source.
The player then buys another branch of Iron so that no inventory slots remain. After opening Sange, he allows Meepo to die. Before respawning, he recalls the sender, causing Yasha to be moved to his stash, and swapped with an Iron branch from his inventory. This leaves both Sange and Yasha not included in his inventory.
When Meepo restarts, a bug appears that allows the player to create unlimited copies of Sange and Yasha, which can then be sold to generate infinite gold. Although the video shows the exploitation using Sange and Yasha, the players say that other things associated with them can cause problems.
Is Meepo available in Dota 2 again?
Yes, Meepo has been returned to the Dota 2 pool.
The first takedown notice was also displayed after a follow-up update on Jul. 28 we confirmed that the exploit that allowed Meepo to duplicate shared objects had been fixed. Valve has not announced that accounts found to be intentionally abusing exploits will receive bans, game play restrictions, or any other penalties.
Meepo experienced a lot of exploitation in 2026
Incidentally, this isn’t the first time Valve has had to deal with a Meepo-related bug this year.
Dota 2 Gameplay Patch 7.41a, released on Mar. 27, fixed several game-breaking Meepo issues. These include feats that allow a hero to crash servers using two Mordiggian Armlets or Observer or Sentry Wards, use multiple Hands of Midas, and have multiple copies of the same item.
Just four days later, on March 31, another Dota 2 update mentioned an additional Meepo exploit. This includes the ability to repeat Appearance dust and create pots or other stackable, shareable items. Valve also fixed interactions including Divine Rapier, Radiance, Hand of Midas, Abyssal Blade, and Disperser.

A separate open GitHub issue posted on Jul. 3 explained the exploitation of the Town Portal Scroll. According to the report, using a Town Portal Scroll on a clone under certain exchange conditions caused multiple scroll charges held by the main hero to match the charge value of the hidden item, resulting in unintended charge duplication.
Many of these bugs seem to be connected to the unusual way Meepo and his clones share or interact with inventory items. Unlike most Dota 2 heroes, Meepo can control several permanent clones at the same time, making changes to item ownership, cooldowns, and combo rules vulnerable to unexpected interactions.
The conclusion
The July 28 hotfix should prevent the latest replication exploit from being used in public matching. However, these types of problems are still frustrating – especially for players in the middle of Dota 2 games where bug abuse can directly cost them MMR.
Although Valve has been quick to respond and install hotfixes, the repeated appearance of bugs suggests that completely preventing Meepo-related exploits remains an incredibly difficult task. Therefore, players should be aware of any additional issues involving hero clones and the inventory system.
