Can The Steam Controller Justify The Price Increase Over Sony’s DualSense?

The price of Valve’s upcoming Steam Controller has leaked online, and fans are outraged at the high price, especially in a market that’s already full of amazing options like Sony’s DualSense controller.
Valve was supposed to have a selection of new hardware for 2026, including the Steam machine, which marks another attempt by the company to enter the integrated PC market, with a product similar to a modern gaming console. Unfortunately, those plans have been hampered by the RAM cost issue, which means Valve may not be able to release the Steam Machine at an affordable price.

It seems that the Steam machine is not the only thing that will cost more. According to Destructoid, a review of the upcoming Steam controller was accidentally uploaded early by Techy Talk’s YouTube channel, in a since-deleted video. In this video, the price of the Steam Controller is revealed, and fans are shocked.
Fans Think The Price Of The Steam Controller Is Too High
According to a leaked review, the Steam Controller will cost $100 USD, which is significantly more than the controllers offered by the competition, with Sony’s DualSense only costing around $75 each. This isn’t to say that the Steam Controller doesn’t have unique features, like its smaller trackpads, but they don’t justify the higher price point.
Throw in the fact that a Steam machine may have a very high entry cost, and the result is a product that won’t be worth the price tag, not if it’s a standard, ready-made PC.

Valve is in a tough spot with the Steam Machine, as the amount of RAM is beyond the company’s ability. The Steam Controller, however, doesn’t need any pieces that go up in price, so there’s no need to increase the price for people who want to play with their friends.
Fortunately, Steam is a very open platform for controllers, so you can use pretty much any modern option, regardless of manufacturer. It’s just a shame that the named Valve option will cost more out of the gate.
